Crofton House School

Crofton House’s alumnae travel far and wide, and in this edition of 1898, we feature some of the many ways that the school’s former students stay in touch with one another and the larger community on their travels. Whether it’s in Paris, London, New Haven, or right here in Vancouver, Crofton House women are always able to draw from the alumnae community’s deep well of shared memories, expansive knowledge, and positive social engagement.

Of the almost 4,000 CHS alumnae, we are still missing contact information for approximately 800. Please, if you or an alumna you know haven't been in touch with the school recently, join us through Facebook, the alumnae directory, and the school's alumnae relations office, and encourage other alumnae to do the same!

PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for the Alumne Association Achievement Award is December 1. Please make your nomination using this form.

Message from Pat Dawson

"Even after students leave Crofton House, their connection to the school remains strong. The friendships forged in such a close-knit environment become a network for life. In the 2013-2014 school year, we are renewing our commitment to supporting alumnae as they connect with each other and the the larger CHS community."

Isabelle Chen ‘04: From Head Girl to Community Leader

As a former head girl of CHS, Isabel Chen ‘04 follows in some considerable footsteps. She’s done so with fervor and panache. She’s currently attending med school at UBC and has  participated in numerous volunteer organizations, including Doctors Without Borders, and the Teddy Bear Literacy Project, founded by Crofton House mom Joanne Roussy. Notably, Isabel was also recently featured as one of Marie Claire magazine's “women to watch.”

Mary Rose O’Callaghan Doisneau ‘78 recently talked with us about her time after leaving CHS: “I had developed the independence and self-confidence necessary to take my wings and fly, which is exactly what I did.” Flying has taken her all the way to France, where she’s resided with her husband for nearly 35 years.

Alumnae News

Class Notes

As we mentioned in the last edition of the 1898 before the summer break, surveyed readers wanted more prominent mention of class notes in the 1898 newsletter. We’ve listened, and will begin featuring more information about the notes in each of our newsletters.

Two alumnae, Hannah (Chapman) McCormack '99 and Bernice Jim ‘95, are happy to announce new additions to their respective families.

Congratulations are in order to Kerry-Lynne Findlay '71, who was appointed Minister of National Revenue July 15.

It is also with great sadness we note the passing of Andrea Will ‘83 in June after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Please remember that you can always have us share your news with other alumnae by filling out our online form or emailing alumnae@croftonhouse.ca directly.

UPCOMING EVENT: Victoria Alumnae Tea

Alumnae living on Vancouver Island are invited to attend the annual Victoria Alumnae Tea at the Empress Hotel. This wonderful opportunity to meet and reconnect with other island alumnae will be held on December 7th, so please mark your calendar and RSVP to events@croftonhouse.ca.

Facebook Connects CHS Alumnae

Bryan Hall's opening

In case you missed it, Janine Adams responded to our recent Facebook post about the 20th anniversary of the opening of Bedford-Jones Hall. She shared the story of being among the first grade ones to take classes in Bryan Hall, when it opened in 1960. Increasingly, CHS’s Alumnae Facebook page is offering a great way for alumnae to stay in touch. The number of subscribers has tripled since last January!

BLOG: Alum Mom Breakfast

alum mom breakfast

The recent Alum Mom Breakfast offered a great opportunity to share stories and reflect on the numerous connections among Crofton House’s generations. Jennifer (Claydon) Close ‘97 even shared a great story about the Crofton tunic her daughter Cassie wears -- it was the same one Jennifer wore when she attended grade one at CHS in 1986!
