Elvis is shown some respect at Mojos Bar this Saturday. Win tix & a bar card

Todd Rundgren has remixed Tame Impala tune Elephant. A Perth band being remixed by this guy - this decade - was not predicted in our tea leaves - HUGE.

Lyndon Blue takes you directly to the Drowning Horse album launch. We almost forgive him for saying they're no one trick pony.. 36 frames per second of Lyndon detail of the Horse, Craig McElhinney, Ourobonic Plague & Grief Contest performances.

Amber Fresh interviewed Joe McKee the day of his very recent album launch. Joe dusts his feathers off and builds his throne upon this land; and London. Burning Boy is an amazing album. Article here

CPN theatre boss Christopher Isaacs previews On The Misconception of Oedipus at The Underground, in the State Theatre Centre of WA from September 5 to September 15.

Tahlia Palmer takes us into the temporary world of pop up bars. The half naked girls selling shots thru the room weren't quite as attractive as smoking inside a bar.

Saturday, September 1, Ladies and Gentleman, ardent fans of Rock'n'Roll, CPN & Mojos Bar present to you: Elvis in my Pelvis! Feat. James Teague, Seams, Dianas & Jean Marie (US) kicking off at 8pm. First to click here picks up the double pass & a $50 bar card!

DROWNING HORSE ALBUM LAUNCH @ THE BAKERY, FRIDAY AUGUST 24

They say you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. The relationship between musician and listener is not so different. Crucial as it may be, no amount of promotion or airplay or hype can actually impel a listener to engage with a band’s music: this act, of devoting one’s senses and attention, of attempting to connect, must be a voluntary – and therein lies its magic. When Perth kvlt-doom luminaries DROWNING HORSE chose their band name, they picked a pair of words that would brilliantly evoke the dark, suffocating, muscular and mythic nature of their music. In light of the aforementioned idiom, however, the moniker is also a pretty accurate description of their fan base’s attitude: you can’t make a horse drink, but fans of this band need no encouragement. In fact, DROWNING HORSE faithfuls are so eager to chug it down that they end up submerged and entombed (in the best, healthiest possible way).

A Pop-Up Bar Named Godzilla

“Pop Up” things have had a hefty little surge in recent times around town. I haven’t paid too much attention other than noticing the words “pop up” more often in the last 12 months or so than in previous times, and I certainly didn’t think about the idea properly at all, until I heard about this pop-up bar in Clifton Hill, a slightly northern inner city suburb of Melbourne. Why did I care about this one and no others? Pretty much just because it’s name is Godzilla, and the photo I saw on ThreeThousand.com while I was in Perth was intriguing. I promised myself I would check it out when I got back to Melbourne, but then I forgot, but then I saw that one of my favourite Melbourne bands were playing a gig this Saturday, and my house mate was throwing a Miami Vice themed party that night...

Not Quite The Same Old Story: On the Misconception of Oedipus at The State Theatre

It’s probably the most recognised story in theatre. It’s spawned multiple variations, had its own psychological complex named after it and even inspired a few Jim Morrison lyrics here and there. It’s Oedipus, that mythical Greek king of Thebes. He had a run in with his dad, and mistook his mother… that’s the cleanest I can summarise it. Anyway, there’s a new show created by three world class theatre makers coming our way thanks to a co-production with Malthouse Theatre and Perth Theatre Company...

runner

at the ellington jazz club, PERTH

The challenges of playing an entirely acoustic show in a musical world usually filled with layers of guitar effects proved an enticing prospect for rising local outfit Runner. The band pulled key elements from their songs and attached them to foundations of strings and voice to produce a rich set to draw last month's HUSH show to a close in the packed Chapel of St Mary and St George.

Those that missed the event will have another chance to catch Runner in this unusual and insightful form at The Ellington Jazz Club

26 AUGUST - 23 SEPTEMBER

This new small exhibition of paintings is based on direct observations of things – choices triggered sometimes by chance combinations, others use colour and light as the starting point. Through unusual pairings of objects, these paintings explore light in all its transient, playful and lyrical states.
