2020 Community Giving Campaign

By Bea Envila

I am very excited to share that MCW exceeded our Community Giving Campaign goal by raising a total amount of $344,125.99 as of Monday, October 26, 2020!!   This included miscellaneous funds from special events, retirees, etc. The eWay individual giving raised a total of $306,529, which is incredible!

This year PM&R raised $8,232.00 – a 91% increase from our 2019 contributions of $4,314.00. Thank you so much!

United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County changes lives and improves our community by mobilizing people and resources to drive strategic impact in health, education, and financial stability.

Did you know that 23% of Milwaukee households do not have internet access? COVID-19 has shown us that access to technology is a basic need. United Way and partners are working to bridge the digital divide with the new initiative: Techquity.

Your Donations in Action:

  • 99% of adults who participated in United Way-funded disabilities programs improved their daily living skills.
  • 49,028 adults and families benefitted from United Way-funded employment and housing programs last year.
  • 5,400+ local students received school supplies through United Way's Backpack Coalition in 2020.

Thank you for your contributions!  If you have not yet been able to access the link from InfoScope, please consider contributing at this unprecedented time of great need. You can make a donation through the eWay portal until the end December:

Additionally, MCW is offering a contactless the ‘Snack Pack Project’ volunteer opportunity through November 12 to serve our community (typically adolescents). MCW volunteers gather approved food items, package them and drop them off at United Way’s Volunteer Van, which will then be distributed to local shelters and Milwaukee community schools. This is open to all, and more information can be found on InfoScope here: Snack Pack Project. We are asking those interested to complete a brief survey (which is included in the InfoScope post), so we can gauge how many agencies will be receiving the goods

  • Kudos to Drs. Michael Harper and Ken Lee for their poster “Evaluation of Concussion Management Protocol in Adaptive Sports: The Guidelines for Conducting Proper Baselines” winning 1st place at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) meeting held in late October. It elevates our department to another level and highlights resident research intensive tracks. Thanks Dr. Lee for his leadership.
  • Congratulations Dr. Braza for serving on the American Board of Anesthesia Pain Medicine Board Exam Committee and ACGME Pain Medicine Milestones Committee. Dr. Braza has been a Pain Exam item writer since 2017. She also serves as a Board Director for ABPMR.
  • Congratulations Dr. Durand for his accepted manuscript "Two-Weeks of Remote Ischemic Conditioning Improves Brachial Artery Flow Mediated Dilation in Chronic Stroke Survivors" in the Journal of Applied Physiology.
  • Kudos to Drs. Ahmed El-Sayed, Bindiya Shah and colleagues for their fantastic  job in putting together the MCW-PM&R Virtual Tour YouTube video for recruitment purposes. It is top notch, take a look at it!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J8BDNcCLSE
  • Congratulations to our current graduates (Drs. Beddows, Cyr, Dunn, Jozwiak, Pfeiffer and Wilcox) for passing their Part 1 ABPMR written board exam.

  • Remember that the required flu vaccination deadline is Nov. 13, 2020. Appointments need to be scheduled by accessing the Occupational Health's Influenza Vaccination Online Scheduler.
  • Our new PM&R Rehab Medicine clinic will open on Jan. 11, 2021. How exciting!
  • The resident interview season is kicking off and preparing to conduct virtual resident interviews. A big THANK YOU to all the faculty for taking the time to interview resident applicants for the class of 2024!

Dr. Ken Lee and colleagues, a/k/a 'Gangnam Crew,' completed a bike ride from Brookfield to Madison in late September. After six hours of riding, one doc struggled to keep going but he did it. Look at the jerseys! Way to go Dr. Lee and team!
