Crofton House School

Head Succession: Position Profile

Before the holidays, I encouraged all of you to attend a meeting with the Head Succession Task Force or to fill out an online survey. Thanks to the many who shared with us their hopes (and some fears) about how the School moves forward after Dr. Dawson's retirement in June 2019. There was a remarkable consistency in the attributes you are seeking in a new Head. Broadly, you told us to go out and find an inspired educator who will drive great programs while attracting and motivating strong teachers and further building the Crofton House community both among us and beyond our walls. We hear you.

Included here is the resulting Position Profile (PDF). You will be interested to read the views of our global search consultants after interviewing many parents, faculty, board and alumnae and after reading your online questionnaires. The document describes our School and sets out the strengths we are looking for in our new Head.

Our global search firm is now starting conversations with candidates based on this document. On February 23, they will bring us the long list of applicants and we will select a shorter list for further conversations. On April 6, we will see a short list of candidates with more granular details of their career, strengths and conversations which have taken place. During the rest of April more interviews will take place between board members, our search consultants and short-listed candidates. We aim to decide on a candidate at our board meeting in early May.

You will remember that the successful candidate will start work a year later in mid-2019. Far from slowing down, Dr. Dawson is as busy and creative as ever. She will remain fully engaged until her retirement 18 months from now.
