This year for the first time IABC Victoria has awarded six Victorians with a Bronze Quill. The new awards recognise Victoria’s top talent – those who have made it through the blue ribbon judging stage for the IABC International Gold Quill Awards.
Congratulations to Amy Baird, Christine Dvoracek, James Howe, Kelly Vandrine, Lelde McCoy and Laura Butler for the quality and impact of their work. IABC Victoria will present the winners with their Bronze Quill award at our Gala Dinner on 26 May at the Hilton Hotel.
Lelde McCoy of Ogilvy Public Relations won a Bronze Quill for her work on the “To Donate Life, Discuss It Today – OK” campaign which aimed to increase Australia’s family consent rate for organ and tissue donation. The success of the campaign was supported by the latest organ donation figures which showed that 309 donors and their families had saved or significantly improved the lives of 931 Australians in 2010. This is the highest annual total of transplants in Australia's donation and transplantation history.
“Having been an IABC awards judge, I know how hard it is to win an award so winning a Bronze Quill is terrific reinforcement to the Ogilvy team that our work is up there with the best globally. It’s such an honour to be recognised by peers,” Lelde said.
Swine flu awareness and prevention for paramedics was the focus of a campaign by Ambulance Victoria’s James Howe. The campaign was effective in helping paramedics keep swine flu at bay and also delivered James a Bronze Quill.
“This was my first time entering the Gold Quills and it was such a rewarding experience. I was amazed at the level of support available to assist with my entry. I can't encourage others enough to participate in the future.”
