Highlight: NIH The Clinical and Translational Research Course for PhD Students


The NIH Clinical Center invites graduate students to apply to the Clinical and Translational Research Course for PhD Students, to be held July 11-22, 2016 at the NIH main campus in Bethesda, MD. The purpose of the course is to demonstrate the role of PhD scientists in clinical and translational research, provide an overview and examples of how basic science and clinical observations lead to translational research, and increase awareness and access to PhD role models, research resources, and potential career opportunities at the NIH.

This training is offered by the Clinical Center at no cost. Participants are responsible for their travel and lodging.

Postdoctoral Researchers - Molecular Pharmacology, Diabetes, and Aging - Albert Einstein College of Medicine - Bronx, NY

Positions of postdoctoral fellow or research scientist are available in Dr. Dongsheng Cai's laboratory in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology, Diabetes Research Center, and Institute of Aging, at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

Dr. Cai's laboratory has persistent interest in studying: (1) brain mechanisms of aging, lifespan and longevity control at cellular and animal (rodents, drosophila and C. elegans) levels; (2) neural mechanisms of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative disease; (3) biology of neuropeptides, neural stem cells and microRNAs; (4) neural inflammation and immunology; (5) epigenetics, especially DNA methylation analysis.

Candidates should have completed PhD training or equivalent, and have independent research abilities, strong research interest, ambitious scientific goals, self motivation, and the willingness and skills to work collaboratively in a team. He/she will be provided with sufficient supports and freedom to ask fundamental research questions and develop innovative research projects. Assistant Professor - Biological Sciences/Genetics - Fairleigh Dickinson University - Teaneck, NJ

Fairleigh Dickinson University invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor of biology with expertise in genetics. Natural Sciences majors and minors pursue concentrations in a variety of fields such as biology, human physiology, molecular biology, environmental sciences and marine biology. The ability to teach across those fields is an asset. The selected candidate will be expected to teach a broad variety of sciences courses and laboratories in the department including general biology for majors, genetics, molecular genetics, informatics and non-major students (typically 4/4 load); develop collaboration with faculty within the department; pursue a scholarly research agenda that leads to peer-reviewed publications; advise students in their major and minor; participate in curricular revisions and development; conduct learning outcomes assessment; and more.

Required Qualifications include: a PhD in a Biological Science-related discipline in hand at the time of appointment (strong preference given to degrees in Genetic or Molecular Biology); demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; expertise in developing student based research; ongoing research in the area of Genetics, with the use of Drosophila melanogaster or other small invertebrate organisms as model organism.
