Welcome to the March newsletter

Dear

March has been another very busy month at Leeds Trinity. At the start of the month new officers were announced following the Students' Union elections. It was all change at the top with Charles Isherwood completing his two-year tenure as President and Vice President Jake Bainbridge not running again.

The new President for the 2019/20 academic year will be Broadcast Journalism student Zoha Shah (pictured above). She will be joined by Journalism student Chris Dow as Vice President. Click here to find out who all the new elected officers are for the 2019/20 academic year.

We welcomed back several of our very talented alumni who led workshops for our Writers Festival on 13 March, and we loved finding out why they loved our Creative Writing course so much.

Alumni community attend SU Awards Evening

We were delighted to invite members of our alumni community to the Students' Union Awards Dinner on Friday 22 March.

It was a fun night where clubs, societies and students were recognised for all their achievements throughout the year. The Alumni Office sponsored a table and Alumni Officer, Brett Arnall, presented the Trinity Awards - to recognise the dedication of students during their time at Leeds Trinity.

Discounted tickets for York Races

We have arranged discounted entry for York Races on Saturday 25 May 2019, with access to the County Stand.

The race tickets usually retail at £42 but you can order them for £26 each through the Alumni Office.

There are no restrictions on the number of tickets you can order.

Celebrating LGBT+ History Month

Leeds Trinity University officially launched a LGBT+ Staff Network as part of LGBT+ History Month in February. We celebrated by presenting the rainbow version of the Leeds Trinity logo as a mark of solidarity with the LGBT+ community.

The Leeds Trinity University LGBT+ Staff Network is a space for members and allies of the LGBT community at the University to share insights, socialise, and discuss and implement developments on campus that will have a positive impact in line with the University policy on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Find out more here

We were also proud to host the Leeds-premiere of short comedy film Sequins on Thursday 21 March - a short film about a teenager in Blackpool, 1997, with a dream of becoming a drag queen.

A placement success story

Andrew Rowley (Media, 2017), impressed on his placement with ilk; an integrated marketing agency in Leeds when he was a student. He secured a full-time role with them before graduating and has been promoted twice in less than two years.

Amy Lund (also pictured) invited Andrew to share his story with students in February 2019. He was accompanied by his boss at ilk, Amy Airey, who stressed what an advantage our graduates have over others: "I would take those with hands-on experience every day. Others don't have the work experience under their belts that Leeds Trinity graduates possess."

Alumni return to win Netball match

Thank you and well done to our alumni Netball players who returned to take on our students on Saturday 16 March. The Alumni Team won 57-37 to retain the trophy.

See all the images from the match on our Alumni Facebook page.

Featured alumni - Jane Tesseyman

One former student we've recently become reacquainted with is Jane Tessyman (nee Cairns) who studied Home Economics and Public Media, 1988-91. It is over 30 years since she first arrived on campus and we're so pleased to see her attending Leeds Trinity Business Network events and getting involved with our Trinity Turbo programme.

"I have incredible memories of my student days. I absolutely loved being on campus and whenever I was back in Leeds I really felt at home."

Jane celebrated her 50th Birthday this month so many happy returns! You can read more about Jane on her alumni profile and find out about the two companies she is Director of, Est Display Ltd which is a print company and 12in12 which is a community interest company.
