On June 20, 2018, CPC joined over 4,000 Early Childhood Education community-based providers, teachers, union members, and allies marched from Battery Park to City Hall to add increased urgency to the salary discrepancies between community providers and Department of Education educators.
CPC's Adult Literacy Students Rally at City HallOn June 6, 2018, CPC joined 1,500 allies and partner organizations- including the New York Coalition for Adult Literacy- at City Hall to rally in support of continued adult literacy funding.
CPC condemns the Supreme Court’s 5-to-4 decision to uphold the Federal Administration’s travel ban that indefinitely restricts non-immigrant visa travel from several mostly Muslim countries including Libya, Syria, Iran, Yemen, and Somalia. CPC remains committed to resisting this Administration’s attempts of excluding and discriminating against communities of color.
In celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and Pride Month, CPC hosted an Executive Dinner on June 20, 2018 and honored Council Members Dromm and Van Bramer in partnership with Steelcase WorkLife Center, Capalino+Company, Christopher Street Financial, and The Wright Group.
CPC, as part of the APA VOICE coalition, recently completed democratic candidate surveys for candidates in the 5th, 12th, and 14th Congressional Districts in preparation for the 2018 New York Federal Primaries.
On June 14, 2018, CPC's Project Gateway facilitated a presentation with members of the Brooklyn community regarding common misconceptions about the NYS Excelsior Scholarship. The workshop also touched upon specific questions and concerns about the program.
CPC stands firmly against the Federal Government's policies of separating immigrant families, whether at the U.S. border, or through U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention of immigrants carrying out daily activities. We remain committed to promoting the social empowerment of Chinese American, low-income and immigrant communities.
On June 8, 2018, NY Assemblyman Peter Abbate along with Ms. Irene Chu stopped by CPC Brooklyn Community Center to greet our Senior Services Computer Class.
On June 7, 2018, we celebrated the last Spring session of the CPC Brooklyn Community Services' Citizenship Class. CPC Brooklyn's Citizenship class is free for community members who wish to naturalize and become U.S. Citizens.
