Welcome to the July 2016 edition of the Employability in Scotland e-bulletin
Regulations laid at Westminster this month have begun the transfer of powers to enable the Scottish Parliament to start legislating on social security and employability.
This month has seen the Employability Team continue to work on the detail, scope and approach for the 1 year transitional services for 2017 and the 2018 fully devolved services announced by Ministers, and, as with each stage of devolved employability delivery, the Scottish Government Team have been engaging and consulting our stakeholder network. This consultative and open approach will continue over the summer and more detail on the services that will be put in place from 1st April 2018 will be communicated to stakeholders later this year.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Employability and Training, Mr Jamie Hepburn, began a series of stakeholder visits in July as part of the induction process in his new role, so far visiting Remploy, SAMH, ENABLE, RNIB, Action for Children, Momentum, Prince's Trust and Barnardo's.
The Minister has been particularly keen to hear from service users on these visits, both to hear of their experiences so far and also what they would like to see delivered as part of devolved employment service. Key themes have been a desire for a more person centred approach, one that takes account of customer's personal situations, and for service providers to better communicate to create a more aligned and integrated approach. The Minister is keen that Scottish Government continue to gauge opinion, read more about this here.
Finally, don’t forget to keep in touch. We are always happy to receive your case studies, examples of good practice and your contributions for the Employability in Scotland website and e-bulletin.
Best wishes
