Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton community update - 17 July 2020

Christchurch City Council

Greetings from your Community Board

Message from the Chair

Kia ora koutou,
I hope you are all staying warm and dry and  those of you with young children are enjoying the final days of school holidays. We've had some amazing events over the past few weeks as part of Kidsfest.
Council is voting on the Draft Annual Plan next Thursday and I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome, as this will provide more certainty to our community. I hope you enjoy the story below about Riccarton House - this is a great example of what Community Board funding can be used for.
Keep being kind and look after one another. Kia kaha.

Chair of the Community Board

Highlights from our latest meeting

Our Community Board met on Tuesday 14 July. Some highlights of our meeting included hearing from local residents as part of our Public Forum, and approved funding for a project to protect air quality in southern Christchurch. The Board appointed Mike Mora to act as the Board's representative on the Cashmere Stream and Port Hills Working Group, which was set up earlier this year to oversee and help implement a range of actions to help improve water clarity and ecological health in Cashmere Stream, with focus on measures to control erosion from the Port Hills. We also approved proposed road and right of way names for two new subdivisions at 458 Sparks Road and 12 Quaifes Road, submitted by the developers. We also approved plans to introduce 120 minute parking restrictions on parts of Mona Vale Avenue, to improve opportunities for short stay parking in this area. You can read the minutes to see what else we discussed and find out the dates, times and details of upcoming Community Board and Council meetings here.

The Riccarton Bush Trust received a funding boost from the Waipuna/Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton and Waimāero/Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board to develop a plan to improve the management of maintenance and repair on the historic Riccarton House.

An update on Cox’s Quaifes

A new naturalised wetland stormwater facility is being built to capture stormwater from Halswell properties in the surrounding area. Once landscaping is complete, this facility will provide a new wetland habitat for native flora and fauna to flourish as well as a beautiful recreational space for our community to enjoy.
