Hurricane Ida made landfall on Sunday as a Category 4 hurricane producing 150 mph winds. The storm brought a ferocious wave of damage through Houma, Louisiana, heading north between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Ida made landfall on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina -- bringing back difficult memories for homeowners.
Hope Force landed in Houma in a community that has been hit hard with wind damage. Our focus here over the next several weeks will be applying tarps to roofs and connecting with homeowners, offering the ministry of presence…walking with them as they struggle in their community that will be without power or water for several weeks in the Louisiana hot sun.
From Joey Stoltzfus, HFI Disaster Services Director: “There are so many people who are desperately trying to get their houses covered before the next storm system comes in. Not only do they have to go through the trauma of a historical hurricane on the anniversary of Katrina, but now they have the contents of their houses exposed to the elements. Many people are also trying to help their elderly parents and grandparents in addition to their own needs, all the while trying to get back to work…but they need help.”
We are looking for immediate availability, and are uncertain as to how long the deployment window will last.
