Dear Business Partner,

The international PV market is booming. Such countries as Mexico, Chile and Japan have set ambitious expansion goals and issued promising growth projections. With its network of offices and joint ventures around the world, meteocontrol is well positioned for this boom.

We recently hosted seven partner companies from six countries at our offices in Augsburg. During a two-week workshop, the 18 participants gained the knowledge they need to professionally represent meteocontrol around the world and provide expert technical support. In the latest edition of our newsletter, we will inform you about other interesting developments.

An overview of our topics:

  • VCOM: Innovation by Experience
Performance ratio: Temperature compensation for exact calculation
User management: Stay on top of things!
Portfolio reports that now display tickets

  • blue’Log X series: new firmware, new functions

  • Did you know . . . the most important information about the solar park concept power control?

  • You can meet us here!

Performance ratio: Temperature compensation for exact calculation

To very precisely calculate the performance ratio (PR), we recommend that temperature compensation be used in some cases. This is the sensible approach to take in areas like monthly PR evaluations, acceptance tests during commissioning and work associated with technical due diligence (TDD) for asset deals. For temperature compensation, short-term fluctuations in the performance ratio due to temperature variations that deviate from standard test conditions (25°C) are neutralized. A formula for this is defined by the standard IEC 61724-1.

To help you determine the performance ratio, you can now activate temperature compensation in the system configuration. The precondition for this is the measurement of the module temperature.

The feature is now available to all partners with the Premium service level.

User management: Stay on top of things!

When was the last time that a user logged onto VCOM? To help you keep an eye on the activities of your users in VCOM, administrators were given the option in February release of seeing them in the contact list. If necessary, you can now delete accounts that are needed no longer.

Portfolio reports that now display tickets

Have you already given the new editor for portfolio reports a try?
You now have even more options at your disposal. Tickets can now also be clearly displayed. As a result, you can provide your stakeholders not only with clear key performance indicators, but also with tickets about current results of the systems in the portfolio.

Please note:
To create portfolio reports, you must be signed on as an administrator or operator in the VCOM group.

New Stable Firmware 1.8.6

The new Stable Firmware 1.8.6 for data loggers in the blue’Log X series is now available. It offers the following new feature:

Compatibility with tracker management:

The tracker management system called exotrack – Exobox made by the exosun company is now compatible. The measured values are recorded by blue’Log and displayed in VCOM as a “tracker” device.

Did you know . . .

. . .  that meteocontrol's park controller (power plant controller) is able to deliver reactive power compensation during both daytime and nighttime operations? In particular, this feature enables costs generated by transformers and park cables due to reactive power requirements to be reduced or eliminated entirely.

On the one hand, the planning of a PV system must include inverters that are able to provide reactive power exclusively depending on the currently produced active power and therefore solely during daytime operations depending on the amount of radiation. On the other hand, inverters that are capable of providing reactive power regardless of the level of active power must be included as well. In technical terms, we are referring to inverters that also provide reactive power during nighttime operations in so-called phase-shift operations – something that is similar to an idling synchronous machine.

Devices made by Sungrow can be recognized by their “-M” designation. KACO’s inverters have been given the type designation “RPonly” – reactive power only. We reported about the compatibility of the inverter type blueplanet 50.0 TL3 RPonly in our December newsletter.
