CPC Brooklyn Community Services Celebrates
Completion of Summer Naturalization ClassCPC Brooklyn Community Services' Summer Naturalization Class for 17 community members ran twice a week for a total of 11 weeks and celebrated their last session on Wednesday, August 21st, 2019. Community members near the interview stage were given extra individualized sessions outside of the regular class periods to provide additional practice. In the end, all three of the participants who had an N-400 interview were able to pass!

CPC Statement on Federal Government Public Charge Rule The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) condemns the finalized public charge rule announced by the Federal government today as a systematic attack on low-income, immigrant families, and communities of color.
CPC 2019 Summer Internship Program Concludes on High Note From leading arts and crafts sessions with the elderly to working on grant proposals, the internship program provided this cohort with an array of experiences catered to their individual interests, inclusive of accompanying team leaders to meetings with partners and community organizations, and visits to City Hall, the Museum of the Chinese in the Americas, and the Tenement Museum.
CPC Hosts Two Community Solution Fellows CPC is happy to host two international fellows through the Community Solutions Program, a year-long professional development program for people who are working to improve their communities by addressing issues related to the environment, tolerance and conflict resolution, transparency and accountability, and women and gender.
NYC Public Libraries Enlisted for Census 2020 Count On August 1, 2019, Mayor De Blasio put $1.4 million to enlist NYC Public Libraries to help with census outreach and count, and CPC commended this effort and emphasized the importance of funding community-based organizations for Census outreach.
Know Your Rights Workshop Empowers Immigrants On August 15th, we invited Ms. Maybeline Saharig from New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) to speak to members of our community about their rights in the United States.
We provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
CPC's Brooklyn Community Center hosted Career Exploration Day on Saturday, August 10th to introduce high school students and their families to a panel of speakers from various sectors to share their journeys and offer advice to anyone struggling to decide on a career.
This summer, the participants of the CPC Service Learning program collaborated with another youth program, Project Gateway, on our annual camping trip.
On Saturday, August 17th, Project Gateway celebrated incoming college freshmen as they take off on their journey to college.
On Wednesday, August 14th, CPC youth joined Public Advocate Jumaane D. Williams and elected officials at City Hall to rally for new legislation that would create a new Youth Employment Education Program for all school-age New York City residents, regardless of immigration status.

This summer, Community Health Services hosted our second Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) cohort. The youth participants, directed by a Peer Educator, chose a unique health issue to build their advocacy project around. Topics focused on e-cigarette use, stress awareness, and suicide prevention.
We make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
Members of Brooklyn's Senior Services program participated in an Independence Day Celebration by submitting their artistic renderings of American flags as part of a drawing contest.
On Friday, August 16th, the Asian American Federation (AAF) hosted a press conference to address U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Public Charge rule, and CPC’s Manhattan Community Services Team discussed how this new rule will impact the Chinese American community.
Call for Community Health Volunteers CPC is seeking health care volunteers to serve on our Incident Review (IRC) and the Behavior Plan/Human Rights (HRC) Committees. These committees are mandated by the NYS Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) for our special needs programs in Brooklyn and Queens.
