A team of researchers at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital has developed the Bubbler, a breathalyzer device that reverse-transcribes RNA from airborne SARS-CoV-2 in breath and is less invasive than alternative testing approaches. Read more.

Notice of NIAAA Data-Sharing Guidance for Human Subjects Research Grants
This notice informs prospective applicants of an NIAAA policy expecting investigators and their institutions to provide plans for submitting grant-related human subjects data to a NIAAA-sponsored data repository, the NIAAA Data Archive (NIAAADA).
Annual COI Disclosure Cycle starts February 9

Per this Notice, NIH solely makes determinations if an NIH-supported or NIH-conducted study qualifies as public health surveillance activity for research.

Upcoming NIH Forms G Transition reminder
Note that proposals due on or after January 25, 2022 must use Forms G, including the new Biosketch and Other Support templates.
Increasing the Minimum Wage for Federal Contractors Fed. Reg. 67126
The new federal regulations require government contractors to pay certain individuals working on/in connection with government with contracts $15 per hour effective January 30, 2022. The requirement does not apply to grants. Read more.
New 2022 proposal submission requirement
Effective immediately, all proposals with submissions due before 5pm Eastern time must identify the prior day as the deadline in Coeus. Read more.

NSF Director: Improving Compliance with NSF Project Reporting Requirements

Starting the year off with a new patent to Brown (US20210018193A1) licensed to Derek Stein's (Physics) startup Techstyle Materials, which has developed smart building materials to create more energy efficient structures.
