1st Grade eNews

Don't forget, No School Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Next Week

  • Bible - Following Jesus (The Vine and the Branches, Fishers of Men, The Church begins to grow)
  • Verse – Colossians 3:17-“Whatever you do in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
  • Reading – Essential Question: What do astronauts do?
  • Spelling & Phonics -  long o sound spelled “ow” for spelling; practice other long o words with “o_e” and “oa”
  • Words to Know - around, because, before, bring, carry, light, show & think
  • Comprehension Skills & Strategies - Main Idea & Details
  • Grammar - We will start taking a grade on grammar skills; practice sentence structure and labeling parts of sentences
  • Unit - Animal classification; Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Math - Finish Chapter 10 on subtraction, Start Chapter 11 on measurement; Please continue practicing addition facts (Rocket Math)

Reminders

  • Please send a heavy coat every day.  Even if it’s too cold to stay outside and play, we will try to go on a short walk to get some fresh air.
  • If your child wears a jacket or sweater in class, it needs to be navy blue

Important Dates

  • January 15: MLK Day- No school
  • January 25: Little Dribblers at 9:15 am in SEC gym (this is 1st grade’s special basketball program)
  • January 26: Marriage conference at Pinnacle Hills Campus-This conference is from 7-10pm; whether or not you attend Cross Church, we would love to have you join us for this evening to encourage you and your spouse.  You can go to crosschurch.com to register and childcare is provided through 5th grade.
  • February 14: Valentine’s Day Parties at 2:30
