CPC Community Member Appointed to the NYS Council on Developmental Disabilities Yulin Huang, a member of CPC's Special Needs Program, has been appointed to the New York State Council on Developmental Disabilities (CDD) Advisory Committee. She is the first Chinese American with a disability to hold this position. Huang's journey began when her mother sought support from CPC. Through CPC-led initiatives, including English literacy classes and advocacy programs, she and her family not only acquired essential skills and support but also became active leaders dedicated to empowering other immigrant families facing similar challenges. CPC's Queens AAPI Heritage Month Benefit Celebrates Community Leadership and Creates Pathways to Success On May 28th, CPC hosted the annual Queens Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Benefit at Terrace on the Park. The gala was joined by over 400 philanthropic, corporate, government, and community leaders, who came together to celebrate the growing leadership within the AAPI community and raise funds to support CPC’s programs serving 20,000 Queens residents. CPC Leaders Recognized Among City & State’s Inaugural Asian Trailblazers List On May 5th, City & State New York released its inaugural Asian Trailblazers list, spotlighting Asian leaders, including government officials, business executives, nonprofit and labor leaders, academics, and activists, who are driving change in politics and policy across New York State. CPC Homecrest Students Win NYC Water Resources Art & Poetry Contest Students from CPC Homecrest’s School Age Child Care Program at PS 153 were honored as one of the winners of the NYC Department of Environmental Protection’s Water Resources Art & Poetry Contest. These students created an impactful video exploring the importance of water and the critical need for conservation.
CPC Hosts First Early Childhood Resource Day at Hostos Community College On May 1st, the CPC Early Childhood Learning & Wellness team hosted its first Early Childhood Resource Day at Hostos Community College. The event aimed to connect families with local childcare providers, offer resources for affordable childcare, and provide mental health screenings for youth and adults. CPC Brooklyn OAC Hosts Fun Mother's Day Celebration On May 12th, the CPC Brooklyn Older Adult Center celebrated Mother's Day with over 150 community members on a fun day trip to Cold Spring. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful scenery and nice weather. The celebration continued with a buffet at a local restaurant, where families and friends came together to share laughter and create memories.
CPC Open Door OAC Celebrates Mother's Day and AAPI Heritage Month On May 11th, CPC Open Door Older Adult Center, in partnership with AM1480 Chinese Radio, hosted a celebration for Mother's Day and AAPI Heritage Month with over 400 older adults at House of Joy. A special highlight of the day was the presentation of the Longevity Achievement Award to over 20 older adults aged 90 and above in recognition of their contributions to the community. While we are encouraged by these steps, the budget could have better addressed the urgent and long-term needs of our most marginalized communities, particularly amid a rising cost of living, a severe housing crisis, and a growing shortage in the home care workforce.
