Editor's note

It has been 10 months since the current Ebola outbreak started in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since then more than 1847 cases and 1200 deaths have been reported. Ebola response efforts are being hampered by ongoing conflict and widespread distrust of authorities. Mosoka Fallah argues that unconventional approaches are needed to end the outbreak.

Binyavanga Wainaina, one of Kenya’s most famous writers, has died. A brilliant writer and self-declared pan-Africanist, Wainaina was committed to reclaiming African cultures and traditions. He was also brave. In the midst of virulent homophobia, he came out as gay and was a prominent and vocal critic of homophobia. Adriaan van Klinken pays tribute to his vibrant legacy.
