Dear Friend

Our Annual report is out! As well as telling stories of dynamic social enterprises we've invested in, we've also featured some of our key partners and attempted to report on pay and gender balance in a fuller way.  I've been in many conferences and forums this year speaking about the need for change in business regarding gender balance (especially in the financial sector). Recognising we ourselves have much to improve on, I'd be interested in any feedback in this area.  Reporting is a small step, but as we've always said, measure what you value or you'll simply end up valuing what you measure.

We're really looking forward to launching our West Midlands SITR fund at a series of events this month.  I hope we'll see some of you at the VCT/EIS Investor Forum this Friday 24th and at Worthstone's Social Investment Academy on Weds 29th.  As some of you know, our investment into Bearpit Bristol CIC has been shortlisted for Deal of the Year at the SEUK Awards.  Follow our fortunes tonight using #socentawards17. For those of you in Bristol, don't forget the coffees and smoothies you buy in the Bearpit are what fuels its transformation.

As well as breaking new ground, we pride ourselves in being a relationship builder, first and foremost.  Yes, we're connecting investors and social enterprises together but we're also looking to build trusting and transparent relationships for the long term. Only by working together can we make a difference. We are thrilled to be able to share that not only did 13 of our investors make a repeat investment into one of our products through last year but more recently Bristol City Council doubled its £5million investment into our National Homelessness Property Fund.  Please do read our Property Fund Social Impact Reports which are out this week; it really is making a difference.

Best regards

Daniel

Annual Report 16/17

Fifteen years ago the term social enterprise barely existed let alone ‘impact investment’. Celebrating our fifteenth birthday this year has been an important milestone to reflect on how far Resonance has come, but also take stock of the opportunities and challenges ahead.

For the first time we’ve started to report a rolling five year story. Over the last five years we’ve mobilised £91 million into the hands of 35 social enterprises and supported an...

Social Impact Reports released for Property Funds

Resonance is celebrating the publication of the first annual Social Impact Report for the National Homelessness Property Fund. Already the Fund has found good quality apartments for over a hundred households, most of whom are homeless single mothers, with very young children, allowing them to move on from unsuitable environments, typically in temporary accommodation. At the same time, the investment is on track to deliver yield and capital appreciation in line...

Pensions for Purpose

As an independent investment adviser to local authority pension funds, and a non-executive director of a social impact manager, I was recently invited to join a working party on social investments. The debate focussed on changes that might encourage more capital to be allocated to these investments and involved conversations with pension fund trustees...
