As many of you might know, 2010 was an exceptional vintage in the home of the world’s greatest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays – Burgundy. So, we are delighted to write to you with a very special pre-arrival offer for 2010 wines from some of the finest Domaines in Burgundy.
This is substantial and exclusive offer; we've selected some of the best Burgundy Domaines. And it has a certain poignancy; rapidly rising global demand means that this may well be the very last Burgundy vintage offering both incredible quality as well as affordabl eprices.
The full offer is available here in PDF form (it is not a huge file - about 500kb). If you'd prefer us to email it to you, just email us here and we'll send it as a PDF and in Excel.
The story so far.... Burgundy makes the world’s best Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. 2010 was a much smaller vintage in terms of volume than normal, but is without doubt being acclaimed as a GREAT VINTAGE. Very, very rarely do the planets align for us in Australia, i.e. a Great Vintage – small volume – exceptionally strong Australian currency – very poor economic conditions in Europe – reasonably good economic conditions in Australia.
The 2010 is shaping up to be one of those rare, remarkable vintages in which weather patterns conspire to produce wines of outstanding quality.
Here's just a smattering of the reviews:
"I hope that my record shows that I am not inclined to hyperbole. In fact, if anything, I probably err on the side of caution when writing about new wines and current vintages. But, having already started my tastings of the 2010 vintage in Burgundy, I must urge those of you who like wines from this French wine region to try to put a bit of money aside (ha!) to invest in the 2010s." Jancis Robinson MW
"Burgundy lovers should snap up the 2010 vintage." Sarah Marsh MW
"A rare, remarkable vintage." Will Lyons
"2010 is a terrific vintage for both colours of wine. Unfortunately when nature gives with one hand it usually takes with the other and in 2010 the trade off is that the yields are very small indeed (30-60% down). This means that allocations are like gold dust and so your relationships with your favourite merchants will surely be tested as keen collectors jostle for position, trying to secure stock." Matthew Jukes
This offer is for pre-arrivals – the wines will be available in September, and if any do make it on to the retail market they likely will be at much higher retail prices.
Your orders will be consolidated and submitted; most likely we will receive all we order, but this is not assured, so we urge you to buy as soon as possible, and definitely before this offer closes at the end of this week. These wines will sell out within a few days so ‘first in best dressed’ absolutely applies. There is incredible global demand for these wines – as the Wall Street Journal put it, “Amid Rising Demand for a Limited Supply, This May Be the Last Affordable Exceptional Vintage”
If you are a drinker of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, I urge you to have a close look at this offer. Where we have them, we’ve included the reviews from the world’s foremost Burgundy critic, Allen Meadows.
These wines will sell quickly due to the huge global interest in this wonderful white and red vintage. Therefore these are the reasons we believe “all the planets have aligned” for us here in Australia. The last time it was this good was with the 1982 Bordeaux vintage; the prices of that vintage rocketed once the rest of the world recovered from their difficult financial times.
