Friday, Aug. 30
Registration opens for first-year students (students will find their assigned registration times in Student Planning). Registration closes at 9:45 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 31
Registration opens for ALL students - entering and returning (students will find their assigned registration times in Student Planning). Registration closes at 9:45 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 1 – Monday, Sept. 2
Registration is closed (if you hear from a student who wants to register for your class, advise them that registration opens again on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and to check their assigned registration times in Student Planning).

Tuesday, Sept. 3
Registration opens for ALL students  and will remain open until 9:45 p.m. Registration will be open on Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 9:45 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 13. Students can view their assigned registration times each day in Student Planning. Your students might refer to these days as the “Shopping Period.”

Also, beginning this semester, the new cap on the number of credits Barnard students will be able to take each semester is 19. Students were able to add an additional four credits (up to 23 or possibly more if they were approved from waitlists) during early registration in April and the shopping period, but you will need to grant approval this fall for them to remain above 19 credits. (Watch for more information in next week's INSIGHTS or see information from last spring's INSIGHTS.

Tuesday, Sept. 3 – Friday, Sept. 13
Schedule meetings with ALL your advisees to finalize their schedules and click “Review Complete” in Student Planning.

Friday, Sept. 13
Last day to approve your advisees’ schedules by clicking on “Review Complete” in Student Planning. Last day to give special approval to your advisees who wish to take more than 19 credits (more info to come on where/how you do this).

Advising and Registration Tips

  • Web browsers matter!! When accessing the WebAdvisor and Student Planning sections, Google Chrome is the best web browser to use. Safari - in particular - doesn't work well with the WebAdvisor and Student Planning systems. You can access these sections from other browsers like Firefox or Internet Explorer, but not all features may be available.
  • You can find the list of classes that satisfy general education requirements under Foundations (also known as Snowbird)" and information on how to register for classes that includes specific instructions about courses that have special registration procedures.
  • There are several resources available to help you assist your students and maneuver the WebAdvisor and Student Planning systems. Here are the resources:
  • Advising Quick Guide
  • Advising Guide 2019-20 (This will be updated with new web links soon)
  • Instruction Manual for Advising & Registration Systems
  • Remind your students they have resources as well. These include:
    • Advising & Registration Resources on the top right corner of myBarnard. These include how-to videos and a printable Registration Overview.
    • First Year Guide 2019
    • Barnard Class Blogs
      • First-Year Class Blog
      • Sophomore Class Blog
      • Junior Class Blog
      • Senior Class Blog
