Journalism Safety Training

To help journalists manage the heightened dangers they face in newsrooms, in the field and online, the National Press Foundation and the National Press Club Journalism Institute are co-hosting a safety workshop. The program will take place at the National Press Club on Friday (tomorrow) from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event is free, but advance tickets are required.

Paul Miller Washington Reporting Fellowship
August 2019-June 2020

From September to June, this one-day-a-month fellowship will give journalists an intensive – and lively – overview of reporting in the capital. Fellows will visit institutions such as the Pentagon, the Supreme Court, the Fed and the Capitol. They’ll discuss politics and policy with regulators, lawmakers, experts and the best reporters in the business. And they’ll learn about the latest data and multimedia tools. Innovations in Food and Agriculture
September 15-18, St. Louis, Missouri
From tariffs to technology, journalists will learn the latest developments in food and agriculture during this four-day program. Topics include gene editing and GMOs, high-tech agriculture, implementation of the 2018 farm bill, food waste and hunger, organic farming practices and more. Deadline to apply is July 16.

Paris Accords of Science Communication
October 21-24, Paris, France
This four-day program will cover issues such as the neuroscience of hate, the science of pain, social determinants of health, childhood trauma and its lifelong impact and the plight of refugees and victims of human trafficking. This program is for journalists based in the United States and the European Union only. Deadline to apply is July 10.

Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists

Each year, the National Press Foundation offers two all-expenses-paid fellowships for the annual Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The fellowship includes full tuition, housing, most meals and round-trip transportation. Deadline to apply is August 23.

Journalism Award Announced
The National Press Foundation and the Hinrich Foundation have established a new journalism award to honor excellence in international trade reporting titled the “Hinrich Foundation Award for Distinguished Reporting on Trade”. The award is open to any professional journalist whose work exemplifies the highest standards of journalism and is published by a trustworthy news organization. The award carries a $10,000 prize and the winner will receive a trip to Washington, D.C., to accept the award at NPF’s annual journalism awards dinner on Feb. 13,
