Get piggy with it

We're excited to announce the first ever downtown OKC event dedicated to bacon. That's right, folks... thanks to our sponsors, the Oklahoma Pork Council and COOP Ale Works, the parking lot at 1115 N. Harvey will turn into a paradise for bacon lovers on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 7-9 p.m.

The event is called 6 Degrees of Bacon and brings downtown restaurants together to provide bacon lovers with a sampling of delicious bacon-inspired food items. There will also be a bacon art show and silent auction, free  COOP beer, a cash bar for wine and cocktails, music by DJ D-Lo and a raffle for bacon-flavored gifts.

What's the occasion?
6 Degrees of Bacon is a fundraiser for the Midtown Association.  Produced by Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc., it's a great way for supporters of the Midtown district to get together and contribute in a fun and delicious way.

Who can attend?
This is a 21+ event (sorry, kids).

How much does it cost?
Surely an all-you-can-eat fundraiser with free COOP beer costs a lot, right? ...Wrong! Tickets are a steal at only $20 in advance and $30 at the door. We're pretty sure this event will sell out quickly, so we recommend you reserve your spot today. Get your tickets from the Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc. offices by calling 405.235.3500 or by visiting us in person at 211 N. Robinson, Suite 225 in Leadership Square.

Verizon Wireless to host free screening of "Telling Amy's Story"

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Verizon Wireless is hosting a screening of “Telling Amy’s Story,” on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. on the the Myriad Gardens Grand Lawn.

Domestic violence awareness advocate Carol Stoops will be the introductory speaker for a free local screening of the powerful documentary “Telling Amy’s Story,” which chronicles the time leading up to the death of Amy Homan McGee, a mother of two who was shot and killed in 2001 by her husband. McGee was an employee of Verizon Wireless.

The documentary includes an introduction by Mariska Hargitay of NBC-TV’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and founder of the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization that works with survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse.

“The act of reaching out for help and breaking the silence is an act of utmost courage,” said Hargitay at a premiere of the documentary last spring held at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. “The film brings together the power of media with public broadcasting. For so many survivors, the path to safety is sustained by the community.”

RTC brings first-ever Grand Guignol performances to OKC

Reduxion Theatre Company pushes boundaries once again as it produces the stage play “Night of Grand Guignol” in downtown OKC.

Grand Guignol (pronounced gRahN gee-nyawl) theatre has roots in turn-of-the-20th-century French theatre, with themes exploring horror, sensationalism and seduction, often breaching common sensibilities. Featuring several vignettes per night, “Grand Guignol” performances cover topics like adultery, perceptions of beauty, mental disorder, love and pain.

Reduxion plans an entertaining menu of “The Final Kiss,” “Jack,” “The Light House,” “Guillotine,” “Doing the Deed,” “The System of Dr. Tarr and Mr. Feather” and “Kiss of Blood,” as well as a few special surprises. Paying homage to original Grand Guignol performances, Reduxion’s adaptations include gory special effects, violence, sexuality and risqué antics.

“We’re excited to present this provocative art form to Oklahoma City for the very first time,” said Tim Berg, “Night of Grand Guignol” Director. “Audiences will be treated to questions about the human condition they may never have considered. Boundaries will be tested and possibly broken. Audience members should expect a night of fascination and horror, taking place just an arm’s length away.”

Grand Guignol will run Friday and Saturday evenings, October 5-27, with Friday shows differing from Saturday shows. Reduxion recommends attending a Friday and a Saturday performance in order to experience all seven vignettes. Performances include adult themes and are intended for audience members 18 and older.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students, seniors and military with I.D. Show-times are 8:00 pm, with a special midnight performance. A free parking lot is adjacent to the theater. Additional street parking is available.

For more details or to order tickets, visit reduxiontheatre.com.
