Item 1: nKPI Reporting

The nKPI reporting round closes COB Monday 15 February 2021.

If you will not be reporting, please send an email to indigenousreporting@health.gov.au advising us of your decision.

Remember, there is a What's New/What's different document available from the User Support link on the Health Data Portal (HDP). Also available are Webex training sessions, simply contact indigenousreporting@health.gov.au

Item 2: Qlik Interactive Reports

You can now access a downloadable PowerPoint presentation containing all of the graphs from the three summary reports contained in your Qlik interactive reports, through the reports menu on the HDP home screen. You can customise it to suit your needs, and it will be re-published with updated data following the finalisation of the January 2021 nKPI data collection through the HDP. You will also need to have the Published Report Viewer role to be able to access.

Remember there is the Qlik Interactive Reports User Guide available at any time through the User Support link in the HDP. You may also request a training session by emailing us at indigenousreporting@health.gov.au

Item 3: nKPI Modifications for January 2021 Reporting Round

Don't forget you will see the changes in the HDP described below.

The first group of minor nKPI updates, involving indicators PI03, PI07, PI08, PI14 and PI22, have been implemented in the clinical information system reports and in the HDP for the 1 January 2021 nKPI reporting round.

PI03 – Addition of the 5 to 14 years age group so as to include all age groups. Inclusion of MBS 715 and MBS 228 (VR and non VR health checks) as 'in person' health checks and addition of telehealth MBS item numbers as a separate disaggregation, 'telehealth' count. The Indicator has been renamed to 'Health assessments'.

PI07 – As per PI03, inclusion of VR and non VR GP management plans as 'in person' management plan and a separate disaggregation for telehealth items. The indicator has been renamed to 'Chronic Disease Management Plan'.

PI08 – The recommendation to remove this nKPI involves a level of coverage that might need to go beyond the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Data Advisory Group (HS DAG) for decision. The indicator will not be visible in the next data collection.

PI14 – Addition of all ages from six months onwards as per current clinical guidelines on influenza vaccination. The indicator has been renamed to ''Immunised against influenza 6+ months'.

PI22 - Rename indicator to 'Cervical Screening'. Updated to align with cervical screening guidelines and removal of reference to 'pap test'. Age range updated to 25 to 74 years.

For your information, the updated nKPI User Guide, drafted by the AIHW, has been uploaded to the User Support link on the HDP. The technical specifications for the nKPIs are regularly updated to reflect nKPI changes. (The version available from this link has also been updated to include specifications for the next group of nKPI updates, which will be implemented in time for reporting from July 2021 onwards).

nKPI Targets - There is a new nKPI targets tab in the nKPI form. It is expected these target questions will replace the section on nKPI target setting in the Activity Work Plan (AWP). The targets you include in the nKPI form and the AWP are self-determined by you/your health service.

The nKPIs included in the AWP (and now in the new nKPI targets tab in the HDP nKPI form) are process of care indicators that have been mapped to 7 of the Implementation Plan for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2013-2023 goals. Process of care indicators have been chosen as they are largely under the influence of organisations and provide organisations and the Department with an opportunity to review the results of their primary health care service delivery practices.

When completing the new nKPI targets tab use whatever method you used to complete the targets section of your AWP, noting the targets in the nKPI form are recorded in 6 monthly increments (as you are required to report on the nKPIs 6 monthly through the HDP), rather than being recorded for every 12 months as per the AWP. The new targets tab in the nKPI form must be completed.

Item 4: Denominator value doubling in PI03 and PI07 Qlik Reports in Error

There is an issue with the calculation of the denominator value in the Qlik Interactive Reports for PI03 (Health assessments 0 – 4 years) and PI07 (Chronic Disease Management Plan) for December 2020 data. The denominator values for the latest collection period (the current reporting round) are being doubled in error (an example highlighted in red in the screenshot below) due to a bug in the HDP. This causes the results for PI03 and PI07 to be inaccurate. Our technical team is working on fixing this issue.

Temporary workaround for PI03 and PI07

To obtain correct figures for PI03 and PI07 simply divide the denominator by two to get your true results for December 2020 for these two indicators. In the example above, the correct denominator for December 2020 is 310/2=155. The correct percentage calculation is therefore (75/155)x100= 48% (not 24%).

Note: This issue also impacts the graphs for PI03 and PI07 in the Summary Sheets in your Qlik Interactive Reports in the same way.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we will inform you as soon as the issue is resolved in the HDP.

If you would like to discuss this issue or require any further information, please email us at indigenousreporting@health.gov.au
