Apply to be director of community engagementGoal 5 of WSU Vancouver's Strategic Plan is to "Establish and maintain mutually beneficial community outreach, research, financial and civic engagement partnerships." One of the objectives under that goal is to create a leadership role devoted to its implementation. WSU Vancouver is now calling for applications for this half-time assignment. Applicants must be current, full-time WSU Vancouver faculty or staff members. This assignment will begin as early as January, 2017 and run through June, 2018, with the possibility of reappointment. Backfill will be provided to the department of the person selected. The director of community engagement will help enact goal 5 by working on the "implementation, coordination and promotion of campus partnership activities." Reporting to the chancellor, the director will facilitate campus outreach efforts across a variety of campus constituencies. The director will work with the ad-hoc group on community engagement to make strategic recommendation to the chancellor to strengthen community engagement. The director will help manage and/or steward relationships strategically and with intentionality, and will take responsibility for ensuring follow-up with potential community partners. The person appointed to this role should demonstrate: success at building partnerships; the ability to work with faculty and staff from all units on campus; the ability to identify strategic opportunities and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve goals; excellent communication skills; follow-through and attention to detail. A selection committee will review applications and make a recommendation to the chancellor. 2016 Walktober results are inWSU Vancouver step counters collectively walked more than 16.5 million steps in October. Those who participated averaged 10,101 steps per day. Last year this number was good enough to bring home the trophy. This year Lower Columbia College averaged 10,918 for the win. Clark College was also very competitive. Since the real goal of Walktober is to get staff keeping fit, it is important to note the number of participants increased from 48 to 56. A special shout out to the Vancouver IT department. Thirteen VIT staff members competed for a total of more than 3.3 million steps. And Sujatha Shynne, VIT tech support services, had the most steps of all competitors—759,213. Keep up the good work, and let’s be ready for Walktober 2017!
