A new year is normally a time for celebration, but celebration has given way to grief and turmoil. The world continues losing lives and livelihoods to COVID-19. My colleagues in Washington, DC, and Kampala are experiencing unrest and violence.

In times like these, I return to PATH’s values—respect, integrity, innovation, collaboration, equity, impact—to guide me, and to remind me that our work (and how we do it) is a way to move humanity forward.

Our articles this month reflect those values—from ensuring good ideas achieve meaningful impact, to applying innovative technology to control tuberculosis, to speaking out against the hatred and violence that produces many of the inequities we work to address. Take care, stay safe, and thank you for collaborating on and supporting this work.
