Walk for A Cure

Jane Cure continued her beloved husband Ade’s legacy by walking the Millennium Way; a gruelling 100 miles across five counties in the Midlands. Jane set off on 8 September and along with several friends completed the walk in just five days. The walkers were greeted in a very emotional end at Middleton Cheney by family and friends. The Cures’ fundraising total for kidney cancer has now exceeded £60,000 and there are plans to make Walk for A Cure a national event in memory of Ade Cure, who died in 2011.

Patient Days

The aim of patient days is to provide patients and their families with much needed information about kidney cancer, including treatments, dietary advice, nursing care and patient advocacy. As well as those In Wales and Scotland (see below) our North of England Patient Day is in Warrington at the Park Royal Hotel on Wed 21 November.

Patient Day in Wales
Jo Popham, Community Development Officer for Wales, has organised the first All Wales Patient Day to be held in the Metropole Hotel in Llandridodd Wells on Wed 10 October, in addition to lobbying the Welsh government to make access to kidney cancer drugs easier for Welsh NHS patients. More info and registration

Patient Day in Scotland
Karen McNee, Community Development Officer for Scotland, has been building awareness of the Fund and lobbying for access to drugs in Scotland. Karen is also organising a Scottish Patient Day for Wed 14 November at the Glasgow Hilton. Find out how to register for this event.

Patient Advocacy

Lee Marriott-Dowding, the Fund’s Patient Advocate, is here to help in anyway she can; Lee provides a friendly point of contact for information and advice, can help ease your situation, or just provide someone on which to vent your frustrations. Lee can be contacted on the Fund’s Careline 0330 111 2 333 Patient Forum or via email, whichever method you prefer.
