Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the State Shipments for July 2019.

Here are a few key findings:

  • We estimate that U.S. consumer spending on beer increased by 0.5% during July 2019.
  • Total U.S. beer shipment volume decreased by 1.8% during July, which had one more selling day compared to July of 2018.
  • On a selling day-adjusted basis, beer volume decreased by roughly 6%.
  • July’s decline in shipments was driven primarily by consumer trade-up to imports and FMBs, including hard seltzers, as well as trade-out to wine and hard liquor. Because imports and hard seltzers tend to be more expensive, less volume is sold.
