Surplus Lines Poised for Continued Growth

Panelists in a recent webinar said the U.S. surplus lines sector continues to grow faster than the overall property/casualty market, but challenges include careful risk selection and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients.

 Farewell 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season: 18 Storms, 6 Hurricanes

The season produced 18 named storms, including six hurricanes of which three were “major” (Category 3, 4 or 5). NOAA’s outlook called for 10-17 named storms, 5-9 hurricanes and 2-4 major hurricanes, and accurately predicted the overall activity of the season.

Rising Seas Mean Higher Tides, Flooding ‘New Normal’

The East Coast is on pace to see record-breaking tides this year, and tides along the Gulf Coast also are trending higher, said William Sweet, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration oceanographer.
