Welcome to the October Alumni newsletter

Dear

We are only a month in to the new academic year but we have more exciting news to share with you. Leeds Trinity University is in the top 15 UK universities for teaching quality and student experience, according to The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019 that was published in September.

The new semester started with Freshers' Fair and three exceptional Psychology graduates returned for welcome week to speak to the latest Psychology, Criminology and Sociology students. Alyshia Murgatroyd, Olivia Pitt and Lydia Braham (pictured above) shared their experiences and top tips to the new cohort. Days after returning to campus Lydia was awarded a British Psychological Society writing award.

October has also seen Leeds Trinity host the England Rugby League Academy men's team who used our sports facilities as part of a two-day training camp.

Featured alumni - Maybelline Arthurton

Maybelline Arthurton graduated from English and Media in 2004 and returned to Leeds Trinity University in 2018 to embark on an MA in Education. As well as her studies, May is also the business owner and founder of the Chapeltown and Harehills Learning Project.

This project supports disadvantaged adult learners in the UK and worldwide and has been running since 2006. Over 500 students per year are now able to benefit from learning new skills. Maybelline is now facing her biggest challenge to date after purchasing and raising funds for an old Church building that will offer much more besides education:

"The church building will be an education and conference centre and there is also land at the back which will support the homeless. My plan is to utilise this base to provide a soup kitchen, clothing section as well as offering a range of support and guidance."

You can read more about Maybelline's project here, including a short video interview between our Alumni Officer Brett and Maybelline.
