Cruise Circle Newsletter

Wednesday 1 April 2020

Hello cruisers,

I hope that this email finds you safe and well and you are coping with the new reality we are all facing together.

For the time being, you're going to find our Newsletters have a slightly different look. Whilst we may not be able to travel at the moment, there's no reason why we can't still find other ways to appreciate the world around us and perhaps plan for when we are back exploring.

We've got a bit of cruise ship geekery, some top tips for our favourite ports of call, some recommendations of cruise blogs and more. We've also popped in a few travel ideas for later this year and beyond, hopefully when we are through this and out the other side.

It's a new world for us all so if there's something you'd like to see, please let us know. We'd love to hear your feedback. Email your comments to info@cruisecircle.co.uk

Finally, don't forget that we're on social media too. We'll be sharing some great ideas, top tips and possibly some silliness too - laughter is one thing we can all do to help get through these challenging times. Join us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter

Kind Regards -- Jason and the rest of the team at Cruise Circle

Cruise ship geekery: MS Marco Polo

The Marco Polo is a popular ship currently operating in the Cruise & Maritime Voyages fleet (she's popular in the office too.. quite a few of us have a soft spot for her!). It's impossible not to feel at home on such a small, friendly ship.. one customer described her like 'an old slipper' - instantly relaxing and comfortable. It's hard to believe she is 55 years old. She started life as the Aleksandr Pushkin, and is thought to have operated between Montreal & Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). Her strengthened hull was invaluable in such cold waters, and came into use later when she was operating for Orient Lines as a regular visitor to Antarctica. She joined the CMV fleet in 2010 and continues to travel the world, operating voyages to Africa, South America & more.

Have you ever sailed on Marco Polo? Let us know on our Facebook page

Booking your next holiday with increased flexibility

We are all experiencing a lack of certainty about when daily life will start to return to normal and, naturally, it is unsettling. Cruise lines are listening and have introduced a range of flexible policies to allow you to book with confidence. Whilst there are variations, you'll generally find you can make a booking now and, sometimes as close as 48 hours prior to sailing, change your holiday for ANY reason without penalty. There is nothing to lose if you'd like to get some future plans in place to look forward to, so why not secure a fantastic offer without risk? Virtual Travel Corner: Brook Falls, Alaska

Whilst we may not be able to travel at the moment, the wonders of technology can still give us a glimpse into the world outside that continues. We'll share a favourite each week, it could be a zoo, a beach, a webcam looking for the Northern or Southern Lights.. anything! This week's pick is the Brooks Falls Brown Bears webcam in Alaska. At the time or writing, I'm watching two bears stand in the river trying to catch leaping salmon - incredible escapism! The sound of the water and bird song is very relaxing too. Click Here to view. For something closer to home, consider Marwell Zoo - you can also donate if you wish. For further Alaska inspiration in 2021, Click Here.

Armchair Escapes: Travel TV, Books & Films

To escape the anxiety & domination of our news feeds about coronavirus, each week we'd like to share a book, film or TV series that may help to provide some escapism and remind us all of the exciting, wonderful world that we live in. This week, we're recommending 'Race Across the World' on BBC2. Imagine how you'd get across the world, any way you like, but without flying and without the aid of your smartphone.
