CPC Holds 7th Annual State Advocacy Day in Albany

On January 22nd, 2025, Chinese-American Planning Council gathered at the New York State Capitol in Albany for our 7th Annual State Advocacy Day. Over 400 CPC staff and community members united to call on New York State to make critical investments in support of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI), immigrant, and low-income communities.

This year, CPC’s top priorities included:

• Fully Funding Human Services: Advocating for a 7.8% cost-of-living-adjustment for the entire workforce through the Just Pay Campaign, and restoring and expanding funding for the Settlement House Program, Adult Literacy, Summer Youth Employment Program, Senior Housing and Supportive Services, Care Coordination Organizations/Health Homes, Early Childhood Education Programs and Open-Ended Preventive/Protective Child Welfare Services.

• Investing in AAPI Organizations: Pushing for $54.35 million in AAPI organizations to address the historical underfunding of AAPI communities across the state.

• Establishing a Permanent Unemployment Bridge Program for Undocumented Workers: Investing $500 million in a fair and equitable unemployment insurance system 

• Increasing Wages and Ensuring Fair and Livable Wages for Home Care Workers, and Establishing Dignified Working Schedules for Home Care Workers: Replacing 24-hour live in shifts with 12-hour split shifts, fully funding Medicaid to eliminate the home care shortage, and ensuring fair wages, improved working conditions, and adequate and dignified care for those in need.

Many legislators stopped by and spoke at the rally to show their support, including Senator Jamaal Bailey, Senator Jabari Brisport, Senator Samra Brouk, Senator John Liu, Senator Julia Salazar, Assemblymember William Colton, Assemblymember Catalina Cruz, Assemblymember Harvey Epstein, Assemblymember Marcela Mitaynes, and Assemblymember Yudelka Tapia.

Throughout the day, attendees participated in activities that encouraged civic engagement, including a rally, meetings with state legislators, arts and crafts, and a Capitol tour. 

CPC staff and community members also met virtually with nearly 50 state legislators the following day to continue advocating for key public policy priorities. Thank you to the following legislators and their teams for their support!
