Freelance Digital Creatives - D-Lab
Wanted - Digital Artist, Artists or Arts Organisation to work with schools. D-Lab is a three-year visual arts project from Arts Derbyshire that will bring new digital art to Derbyshire. D-Lab is funded by Arts Council England and supported by Arts Derbyshire and Derbyshire County Council. D-Lab is an online platform, we are now looking for artists or organisations that are interested in tendering for the four schools projects, which are likely to start in January. We will work with 4 Derbyshire Secondary schools – Highfields in Matlock, Granville in Swadlincote, Ormiston Academy in Ilkeston and Heritage High in Clowne – on exciting and innovative projects which will help them to explore how they can use digital media creatively to transform teaching and learning, and to develop new schemes of work which embed digital media. Learning Curator - Backlit
Backlit wishes to commission a Learning Curator to develop, manage and evaluate a major heritage lottery funded programme inspired by the historical figure Samuel Morley. Backlit’s project will focus on its site-specific historical past profiling the Nottinghamshire Victorian philanthropist and social reformer Samuel Morley. Backlit is seeking an individual to work with the Director and Backlit team to: Liaise with and consult with community partners, local organisations; Organise and manage two community led participatory projects; Identify, recruit and manage socially engaged artist/educators to deliver a series of textile based/creative activities in Sneinton and St Ann’s area of Nottingham; Oversee the evaluation of the learning and outreach programme in consultation with the artist educators; To work with the Marketing Manager to promote the activities. Application deadline: 7 November. Assistant Curator/Technician - Backlit

Marketing Manager - Backlit
Backlit wishes to commission a marketing manager to oversee the marketing and promotion of the Learning programme and Digital Archive for the Samuel Morley Project. Regional Progamme Officer East Midlands - First Story
We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Regional Programme Officer to act as a champion for First Story and creative writing in the East Midlands. First Story has been operating with success in the East Midlands since 2010; we now have writers-in-residence in ten schools in Nottingham, Leicester and Lincolnshire. We are looking for someone dynamic and enterprising to coordinate our current residencies in the East Midlands and to cultivate local support and explore opportunities for extending our impact within the region. This is a key role that will give the incumbent the opportunity to help shape First Story’s regional operations and will allow First Story to change the lives of young people in the region. Community Engagement Manager - Rosie Kay Dance Company
RKDC is seeking an organised and committed individual to support the upcoming tour of 5 SOLDIERS. This timely and controversial work successfully toured to theatres in 2010 and 2011 and has now secured new funding to develop a new and deeper invested model for touring. This new tour spanning May - June 2015 updates the work, with a production that goes to unusual venues, theatres and outdoor spaces. Click; Connect; Curate; Create Evaluation and Future Recommendations Plan: Invitation to Tender
Leicestershire County Council Communities and Wellbeing Service (C&W) is seeking a consultant(s) to review and evaluate the impact of the Click; Connect; Curate; Create (CCCC) project (Stage 1) and to recommend how we embed digital into its strategic plan for the future (Stage2). CCCC is a two year Arts Council England funded project exploring digital content based on Leicestershire County Council’s museum sites, stories, objects and collections. The aim was to explore how Leicestershire County Council can use digital content to increase footfall to our sites and exhibitions and increase primary and secondary visitor spend. The project started in July 2013 and is due to be completed in March 2015.
We would like the consultant to:

  • Stage 1: Review the internal evaluation of the programme’s pilot projects & assess how successful the programme was in delivering its key learning outcomes (as well as identifying any new ones) and recommend how these can be embedded into current service delivery
  • Stage 2: Carry out a future recommendations review taking into account the strategic challenges and strengths of the service: § Highlighting key activities that could be carried forward through core or funded activity § Proposing how digital can be embedded into C&W’s strategic plan and resource implications i.e. staff skills, infrastructure, project delivery etc.

Each stage of the budget has an approximate budget of £5,000 (excluding VAT) and will need to be completed by May 2015. Leicester Media School - De Montfort University
DMU is internationally renowned for creativity and innovation. Our life-changing research is central to our vision. We want outstanding candidates to fill a number of posts with a lecturing and research focus as part of our VC2020 Lectureship programme designed to build research capacity towards REF 2020. The school is seeking three lecturers in Computer Science to contribute to the activities of the Centre for Computational Intelligence within the School of Computer Science and Informatics.

  • Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Game Art. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and successful team running England’s first industry accredited games course.   • We are seeking Creative Mac Artworkers who demonstrate versatility, enthusiasm and creative flair to join our talented team. The main function of the Creative Mac Artworker role is developing initial concepts into finished designs by following structured briefs in a target driven environment. You will work closely with designers and utilise the design software - Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. The role will also include creating finishes, typesetting, colour retouching and image manipulation. The ideal candidate will have excellent Mac Skills and a background in Graphic Design or similar. The main function of the Illustrator role is visualising design ideas from the initial sketches all the way through to final artworks. The ideal candidate will have excellent drawing and compostional skills and demonstrate a wide variety of painting and illustrative techniques, from contemporary and fashion led to traditional and decorative styles. You will have a strong eye for colour and detail and be able to draw a wide range of subject matter.

Sessional Asian/Bollywood Dancer - Derby Open Centre
Derby Open Centre is looking for a sessional Bollywood and/or Asian dancer to lead dance workshops in schools, and with community groups. The applicant should have experience of working with children and in a school environement, be reliable, self-sufficient, flexible and have access to a car. Our workshops last 45 minutes and are paid at £40 per session which is inclusive of travel time and expenditure. Established in 1981, the Open Centre is a well respected organisation based in Derby in the East Midlands. We exist to promote understanding between different communities by celebrating and raising awareness of their faith and cultural heritage. We promote good community relations between British citizens, no matter what their background or belief. Lighting up Leicester with Creative Talent from across the UK
The UK Young Artists Leicester Festival 2014, taking place across the city from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 November, will feature work from 70 artists in a rich and varied programme spanning applied arts, literature, moving image, music, performance and visual art. There's a workshop programme running alongside the festival too, and everything is free to attend. There are 60 events taking place across the weekend including a programme of workshops, talks and masterclasses run in conjunction with Writing East Midlands, Leicester Print Workshop, IdeasTap and Pedestrian. Leicester Lo-Fi Photography
We're a group of Leicester based photographers that embrace the traditional aspects of photography by using old film cameras, toy cameras, pin holes, alternative processes and darkroom printing. We have regular meetings every month where we swap ideas, take pictures, make prints, set projects and hold exhibitions. We also run a community based darkroom just outside the city centre. Fitted with 6 enlargers, capable of printing black and white negatives in a range of formats, 35mm, medium format (all ratios) and 5 x 4. Interact Labs - Beginners Arduino Course
Sat, 08 Nov 2014, 13:00 - 17:00, Leicester Hackspace, Makers Yard. £40 Per Attendee. Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. Our Introduction to Arduino Workshop will get you up an running with this exciting technology, showing you how to program the device and make simple electronic circuits. The course fee includes a complete Arduino kit containing an Arduino UNO clone, LEDs, a motor, battery, prototyping board and other components. This will be yours to keep after the workshop. Design for technology transfer training - Design Council
28 November 2014, 9.30 – 4pm. This one-day, interactive training course, developed and delivered in partnership with the University of Nottingham, will provide you with a practical understanding of how you can use design to accelerate the commercialisation of science, technology or engineering research. Using your own projects as examples to reference, you will be introduced to critical design methods and shown how they can quickly and easily be applied to your research portfolio. Filmmaker for Mouthy Poets on Tour - Ideastap Brief
One winner will be awarded a £300 commissioning fee and mentoring support to make a film that will be shown as part of Mouthy Poet collective's national tour. This will need to be an artistic film but also give a visual insight into the wider context of the Mouthy Poets collective and the impact of the collective’s work. The film will be a maximum of five minutes in length and ideally will include some interview material. Deadline: 21 Nov. Apply here.

Jerwood Visual Arts and Photoworks launch new photography award
Jerwood Visual Arts and Brighton’s Photoworks organisation – which last weekend launched the sixth Brighton Photo Biennial – have come together to create a new UK-wide photography award to support the making of new photographic work. Open to UK-based artists and photographers, the Jerwood/Photoworks Awards will offer three winners £5,000 each to develop ideas that represent ‘new approaches to photography’, culminating in a group exhibition at Jerwood Space, London. The work will then tour nationally. There is no age limitation and the awards are open to UK-based art practitioners using photography who are within ten years of graduating or establishing their practice. The deadline for submissions is 1 December 2014. Lighting up Leicester with Creative Talent from across the UK
The UK Young Artists Leicester Festival 2014, taking place across the city from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 November, will feature work from 70 artists in a rich and varied programme spanning applied arts, literature, moving image, music, performance and visual art. There's a workshop programme running alongside the festival too, and everything is free to attend. There are 60 events taking place across the weekend including a programme of workshops, talks and masterclasses run in conjunction with Writing East Midlands, Leicester Print Workshop, IdeasTap and Pedestrian. The full programme, venue details and ticket links for the performance events are all available via the UK Young Artists website.

Call for submissions: Bamboozle Open Exhibition 2014
The Bamboozle Open Exhibition is a new open submission exhibition that will present exciting work from emerging and established artists from across the Midlands region, whilst raising money for Bamboozle. Submissions are open to artists across the Midlands from 22nd October – 21st November 2014. Submissions will be reviewed by a selection panel and successful submissions will be displayed in the final exhibition which will run from 3rd December – 21st December 2014. On Repeat :: An exhibition by Ornamentum
Exhibition at Snibston community gallery 2nd-24th December 2014. Ornamentum are a group of eight Leicestershire-based professional makers working in jewellery, textiles, paper and ceramics. The exhibition is the culmination of a 12-month

Jerwood Visual Arts’ Writer in Residence programme enters its fifth year in 2015. IdeasTap Inspires: BBC Writersroom
Forty aspiring writers for screen, stage and radio will attend a practical, hands-on BBC Writersroom workshop at IdeasTap, taking place on Wednesday 17 December 2014. The workshop will be held from 1pm till 6pm with a free lunch being served from 12pm for all attendees. The workshop will be delivered by Henry R. Swindell, development executive for BBC Writersroom. Following the workshop, attendees will be asked to upload scripts to their IdeasTap portfolio by the end of January, based on their learning at the workshop. Over the decades, several successful comedians have used music to subvert and entertain, often with some fairly rude jokes mixed into the message. This short taster course will help you create such a song around the target of your choice.
  • Poetry Writing for Beginners 2 Sessions from 26th Nov
    Wednesday 1pm – 3pm, Leicester Adult Education College, £30. 
    First-time writer, dabbler, hopeful or looking for fun with words, this two-part course will set you on your way. Session one will help you to write poems in pairs, groups, and on your own, with clear targets, various forms and styles, learning through enjoyment.
  • SPECIAL EVENT: Preparing For Publication Friday 5th Dec 1pm – 4pm, LCB Depot, £25. Writing a first draft is a real achievement, but there’s a lot of work to do to make your writing as good as it can be. This course introduces a simple three-level model for editing your own prose. You will work on your own writing and give and receive feedback from others.

MY Dance Festival 2015 - Ideastap Brief
Love youth dance? Want to help shape an exciting showcase for youth dance, meeting industry professionals along the way? Together with our partners DanceXchange, we’re offering one IdeasTap member the chance to join the selection panel for regional youth dance festival MY Dance 2015. Working alongside professional artists and practitioners, the brief winner will choose five groups from the West Midlands to take part in next year’s festival at Nottingham Playhouse on 11th April 2015. The regional selection panel will take place on Monday 1st December 2014 at DanceXchange, Birmingham. Following the regional festival, the winner will then join the panel for selecting which groups perform at the national youth dance festival U.Dance 2015, which will be taking place in Plymouth during 22nd to 25th July. This brief closes at 10am on Tuesday 18 November 2014 and is open to IdeasTap members aged between 16 and 25. Superfast Leicestershire
Superfast Leicestershire is an £18.6m project funded by Leicestershire County Council and the European Regional Development Fund. The project will bring high-speed fibre broadband to 96% of homes and businesses in Leicestershire by March 2015. To help Leicestershire based SMEs make the most of high-speed fibre broadband, a series of free 2 hour workshops and full day events are being held across Leicestershire. The Superfast Leicestershire Business Support Programme will be managed by the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce. Booktrust Stories Tour Toolkit and Legacy Training - Leicester
Join Booktrust in Leicester for a training session that will leave you inspired to engage with families and put on fun arts events in your local area. We will be sharing all we have learnt from our latest storytelling project, the Stories Tour. The training session will cover: Tips on touring; ways to communicate with hard to reach communities and venues; practical tips for ar tists and venue hosts and information on applying for funding. The Stories Tour ran 60 events in Libraries, Community Centres and Prisons reaching over 1500 children and their families. The storytelling events featured an original play, local storytellers and free books and resources for families. The tour was particularly targeted at Bangladeshi, Somali and Pakistani families and over 70% of attendees were from this background. Book your FREE place here.

The new-look HLF website, with integrated online community, has been re-designed with you in mind. It is more image-driven and user friendly – you can even browse it on your mobile device. The site been developed in line with digital best practice, and HLF are proud to have retained our high accessibility standards. Carole Souter, Chief Executive of HLF, has written a blog post to mark the launch.

Sir Thomas White Loan Charity
The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity has been in existence since 1542 and was founded by one of the City’s most generous (but least well known) benefactors, Sir Thomas White. Although he never actually set foot in Leicester, Sir Thomas is honoured by being included as one of the four statues around the Clock Tower in the Leicester city centre. We are an Equal Opportunity organisation providing loans for new business ideas and young businesses needing investment. Eligible candidates may borrow up to £15,000 for business and up to £6,000 for education, to establish themselves in their chosen career. Loans are interest free for 9 years, repayable by equal instalments after 3 years. Find out more here.

Council helping new businesses to get started
North West Leicestershire District Council is helping new and prospective business owners by hosting a free business start-up seminar at the Council Offices on Monday 17 November. This event, which is organised by NBV Enterprise Solutions, aims to offer expert advice to new business owners from across the district. Music Grants for Older People
The registered charity, Concertina which makes grants to charitable bodies which provide musical entertainment and related activities for the elderly has announced that the next deadline for applications is the 30th April 2015. The charity is particular keen to support smaller organisations which might otherwise find it difficult to gain funding. Since its inception in 2004, Concertina has made grants to a wide range of charitable organisations nationwide in England and Wales. These include funds to many care homes for the elderly to provide musical entertainment for their residents. Read more here.

New India Cultural Exchange Fund
A new £1.5million lottery fund will be available in early 2015 to build creative connections between the people of England and India. The new funding will provide English artists and arts organisations with opportunities to develop collaborations and cultural exchanges with their Indian counterparts. The scheme will be run by British Council and the Arts Council England and will give grants of £15,000-£100,000 to support projects that:
Promote creative collaborations & Showcase the best of UK and Indian arts across a range of art forms and activities; etc.
Applications open in January 2015 and there will be a second round of funding in 2016 with activity expected to peak during 2017 to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian independence.

Arts Council England Strategic Touring Programme
The next closing date for grant applications to the Arts Council, England Strategic Touring Programme is the 9th January 2015. The £45 million Strategic touring programme provides in excess of £15,000 for projects that encourage collaboration between organisations, so more people across England experience and are inspired by the arts, particularly in places which rely on touring for much of their arts provision. Read more here.

Wellcome Trust Arts Awards
The Wellcome Trust is inviting organisations and individuals to apply for funding through its Arts Awards. The Arts Awards support projects that engage the public with biomedical science through the arts including dance, drama, performance arts, visual arts, music, film, craft, photography, creative writing or digital media. Applications are invited for projects of up to £30,000 through their small grants programme. The aim of the awards is to support arts projects that reach new audiences which may not traditionally be interested in science and provide new ways of thinking about the social, cultural and ethical issues around contemporary science. The next application deadline for small projects is the 28th November 2014. East Midlands commercials production company Origami Films is making the software they built to manage their own company available to others for the first time. Radcliffe Trust grants for classical music
Deadline: 31 January 2015. The Radcliffe Trust supports classical music performance and training – in particular chamber music, composition and music education. Within music education, they are especially interested in music for children and adults with special needs, youth orchestras and projects at secondary and higher levels, including academic research. Applicants must be a registered charity or an exempt charity. Previous grant recipients include the National Autistic Society which received £2,000 for a music room in Glasgow and Birmingham Children’s Hospital which received £2,500 for a ‘Singing medicine’. Grants to Help New, Innovative Visual Arts Projects
The Elephant Trust has announced that the next deadline for applications is the 12th January 2015. The Trust offers grants to artists and for new, innovative visual arts projects based in the UK. The Trust's aim is to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when confronted by lack of funds. The Trust supports projects that develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts. Priority is now being given to artists and small organisations and galleries who should submit well argued, imaginative proposals for making or producing new work or exhibitions. Arts Festivals are not supported. The Trust normally awards grants of up to £2,000, but larger grants may be considered. Read more here.

The Fidelio Trust offers grants of up to £5,000 in support of the Arts, in particular the dramatic and operatic arts, music, speech and dance. The Trustees aim to help individuals and groups such as Colleges, Arts Festivals and other arts organisations who would not be able to carry out a project or activity without financial support. The next closing date for applications is the 1st February 2015. Funding for Digital Projects with a Social Impact
The Nominet Trust which provides funding and support to imaginative social technology ventures has announced that the next funding round of its Social Tech Seed Investment Programme will open for applications on the 22nd September 2014. Social Tech Seed is an investment programme that offers early-stage investment of between £15,000 and £50,000 to entrepreneurs who are looking to develop new ventures using digital for social impact. This programme provides funding and support to help entrepreneurs nurture, develop and test their ideas. The Trust is looking for applications that demonstrate the potential of technology to tackle some of the big social issues in sectors including education, employability, healthcare and the environment. Accelerator is IdeasTap's new commission-free crowdfunding platform. As an arts charity and funder, we've been helping creative people to get their ideas off the ground for years. The Clore Duffield Foundation is open to applications as part of its £1 million programme to fund poetry and literature initiatives for children and young people across the UK. Funding to Enable Disadvantaged Young People Reach their Potential
Registered charities that work with disadvantaged children under the age of 25 can apply for funding of up to £10,000 through the Ironmongers Company’s grants programme. The Garfield Weston Foundation helps small, local community organisations and covers a wide range of charitable activity. Areas funded include: education, arts, health, environment, community, youth, religion and welfare. Grants of up to £50,000 are available. There are no formal deadlines for submitting applications. Golsoncott Foundation
Golsoncott Foundation grants are available to voluntary sector organisations in the UK for projects that promote fine arts and music. Grants vary according to context and are not subject to an inflexible limit, but they are unlikely to exceed £5,000 and are normally given on a non-recurrent basis. Read more at here.

Creative Employment Programme
The Creative Employment Programme (CEP) is an initiative funded by the Lottery and Arts Council England, administered via Creative and Cultural Skills, and provides organisations in the creative and cultural sector with access to grant funding so they can provide structured opportunities for young, talented people to enter the industry.  To learn how you can get involved, join one of The Mighty Creatives' short online information sessions to find out more. You might be considering taking on an Intern in the very near future, you might want to help by providing a work shadow placement for a school leaver, or you might just want to know more about the CEP for future reference because 'you never know'; all are welcome!
