Emmy Award-Winning Show 'Asian American Life' Features CPC On November 12th, CPC was featured on Asian American Life, an Emmy Award-winning series on CUNY TV that highlights the AAPI community. Host Ernabel Demillo toured CPC One and interviewed the Huang family, who benefited from CPC's Special Needs Program and have since become advocates for the community. CPC Co-founder Virginia Kee and President and CEO Wayne Ho also spoke about our mission and commitment to helping immigrants navigate complex systems while strengthening their civic engagement and sense of community belonging. Amy Latorres is Honored at Schneps Media Brooklyn Power List Gala On November 14th, Amy Latorres, Director of Education and Career Services at CPC, was recognized at the Schneps Media Brooklyn Power List Gala. The event honored individuals shaping their industries and provides a platform for networking. Amy, who leads efforts to support the academic and career advancement of individuals from youth to adulthood, joined other leaders from various sectors, including law, business, health, and community service. The Gala was covered by the Brooklyn Paper.
City & State New York Highlights CPC’s Advocacy Efforts On November 7th, City & State New York interviewed Carlyn Cowen, our Chief Policy and Public Affairs Officer, at the Somos Conference in Puerto Rico about policy initiatives and advocacy efforts focused on immigrant protections in New York following the presidential election. Carlyn emphasized the need for policies that provide housing, food assistance, and more, to ensure all people, regardless of immigration status, can thrive. They reiterated that these priorities will continue to drive CPC’s advocacy efforts as we work to ensure that New York remains a sanctuary state. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
Beacon Project Lead Celebrates Success with a Trip to the New York Aquarium On November 16th, CPC Beacon Project Lead participants visited the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn after weeks of supporting group leaders and specialists in our afterschool program. Led by program supervisors Myah Rios and Aaron Quinonez, they explored the aquarium and discovered interesting facts about marine life.
CPC Celebrates Thanksgiving with Our Community CPC celebrated Thanksgiving with community members across our early childhood centers, older adult centers, and community centers. Our centers distributed turkeys and hosted Thanksgiving meals and fun holiday activities. CPC is grateful for the support of our partners, volunteers, and donors, who made this Thanksgiving extra special for everyone we serve. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
Nan Shan Older Adult Center Hosts Japanese Jazz Concert On November 13th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center hosted a Japanese jazz concert for community members. The performance featured a range of timeless favorites, including movie themes and popular songs from Taiwan and Hong Kong. Attendees also had the chance to engage with the musicians and learn about the instruments used during the Q&A session.
Brooklyn Community Services Hosts Retreat in the Catskills On November 1st, CPC Brooklyn Community Services held a retreat at the Arnold House in the Catskills. The retreat brought together staff and their families, providing team-building opportunities and alleviating childcare challenges for parents. Activities included wellness and self-care workshops, policy training, and strategic planning sessions. CPC Joins Robin Hood Panel on AAPI Access to Public Benefits On November 12th, Wayne Ho, CPC’s President and CEO, represented CPC on a Robin Hood panel with MinKwon Center and Public Health Solutions to discuss improving public benefits access for AAPI communities and best practices for supporting community members. He shared some of CPC’s key efforts to make benefits more accessible, including hiring multilingual staff to assist with applications, partnering with community organizations for outreach, and increasing collaboration across programs. CPC Issues Statement on Presidential Election Results On November 6th, CPC released a statement on the presidential election and reaffirmed our commitment to serving and empowering New York’s diverse communities, especially those who are undocumented, LGBTQ+, speakers of languages other than English, with disabilities, living with HIV/AIDS, and low-income. We will continue to be a safe, inclusive, and equitable space for all and will stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies to ensure our community members can thrive.
