November is ...
National Adoption Awareness

Not your Grandmother's Adoption! One Birthmother's Story

I thought this was an interesting perspective:
"Adoption is not a last resort," she says. It's time to "talk about adoption in a positive light for the true choice that it is:  a realistic and potentially rewarding opportunity for women facing an unexpected pregnancy."
From SecularLife

YOU Can Make a HUGE Difference!

Sometime this coming Holiday Season, you'll hear about a neice, neighbor, friend, daughter of a friend -- someone who is facing an unplanned pregnancy. Be ready to suggest that she make an adoption plan!

Everyday I look at my daughter I'm reminded of the love her birth mom had for her ... choosing life, choosing parents and a home. I'm so grateful to her!  I don't doubt for one second that her decision was the hardest thing she's ever done, but I do believe she's glad she did.

Encourage someone to be part of the miracle of creating a new family!

Definition of 'birthmom': a woman who gives birth to a child who is later adopted or for whom an adoption is planned. She may also be called the biological mother.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Less than 0.5% of women facing unplanned pregnancy make an adoption plan?
  • When they do, it's because an adult in their life encouraged them to consider adoption?  And ...
  • there are over one million U.S. couples waiting to adopt?

Adoption Funding Resources!

At CAFO, I learned about these organizations that help prospective adoptive parents with the cost of adoption:

  • ABBA Fund  - grants and interest-free loans.
  • Adoption Airfare - discounted adoption travel.
  • Pathways for Little Feet - interest-free loans.

Why are we doing this?
Young women are 50% MORE likely to make an adoption plan when the trusted adult in their life suggests it to them. Otherwise, most girls don't give it a thought, and choose between abortion or single parenting. That's why we need to get this on the radar of more people.

About Unplanned Good

We promote adoption as a positive option for those facing unplanned pregnancies. It can be so very good (and beautiful!) for all involved.

Unplanned Good is reaching out to both teens and their parents, to let them know that adoption is an option. Studies have shown that girls are 50% more likely to see their pregnancy through and make an adoption plan when an adult suggests this path.

Please visit our site, and encourage others to see it. Read the encouraging, heartfelt stories there.  Send in your own story, and ask a friend to do the same.
