CPC Honors Essential Workers and DoorDash CEO Tony Xu at Lunar New Year Benefit Although we could not celebrate in the same way this year, nearly 500 guests attended our virtual Lunar New Year Benefit to honor essential workers and DoorDash CEO Tony Xu while ringing in the Year of the Ox. The benefit raised over $490,000 to support essential services for Asian American, immigrant, and low-income communities. CPC Calls for Governor to Support Universal Pre-K in State Budget PIX11 News has a story on the April 2nd press conference with CPC, Alliance for Quality Education, and Invest in Our New York, along with legislators and allies, to speak out against the Governor's efforts to cut funding for statewide Universal Pre-K. COVID-19New Yorkers age 30 and older are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Beginning April 6th, universal eligibility goes into effect and all New Yorkers 16 years of age and older will be eligible to receive the vaccine. A Job Well Done! Hong Ning Holds 2nd Vaccination Clinic On March 25th, over 90 people at CPC Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly, including seniors and staff members, received dose 2 of the Moderna vaccine with help from Mannings-Confucius Pharmacy.
Family Child Care Providers Get CPR Certified Members of CPC Family Child Care Network met for a CPR certification training in Queens on March 27th. The training was led by Michael Shin, a certified CPR trainer of the American Red Cross, with more than 20 child care providers. This training was supported by funding from the Korean American Community Foundation.

CPC Joins #StopAsianHate Actions with City and Community Leaders CPC joined community and city leaders the week of March 16th to condemn the rise in anti-Asian hate and violence and to mourn the loss of eight lives during a mass shooting in Atlanta.
CPC Statement on the Atlanta Shootings We are horrified and heartbroken by the murders of eight people, six of whom were Asian American women, in Atlanta, Georgia. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of all the victims. We stand in solidarity with our neighbors to address the root causes of violence and hate, and work to address the intersections of racism, sexism, classism, and xenophobia. CPC Joins Manhattan Borough President and Anti-Violence Allies in Calling for Solidarity and Action CPC joined Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer, elected officials, Asian American and anti-violence allies at a press conference on March 30th to #StopAsianHate and promote bystander intervention. Speakers called for action after an Asian American woman was violently attacked outside of a building in midtown Manhattan.
CPC Joins Asian Peace Rally at City Hall CPC Queens Community Services Director Mitch Wu and Director of Operations Steve Yip joined community leaders at a New Yorkers United Against Anti-Asian Violence & White Supremacy rally at City Hall park on Saturday March 27th. CPC joined CACF and Asian American organizations calling on Governor Cuomo to provide $19.5 million in the FY21-22 State budget to support organizations working on pandemic recovery and responding to rising hate.
CPC Speaks at Solidarity Rally in Jamaica, Queens CPC Queens Community Services Director Mitch Wu spoke about how to #StopAsianHate and invest in communities at a solidarity rally organized by 100 Suits for 100 Men and KAAGNY in Jamaica, Queens on March 25th.
CPC Quoted in New York Times Article CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho and Chief of Staff Alice Wong were quoted in a New York Times article on March 18th about the nuances and challenges of reporting hate crimes. Solutions cannot be found in over-policing, but rather through investing in restorative justice and true accountability, a robust social safety net that includes everyone regardless of status, and in-language services for our communities.
CPC Quoted in NY City & State on Indirect Cost Rate Initiative CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho was quoted about New York City's plans to cut reimbursements to nonprofits providing essential services during the pandemic. Read the full article published March 25th in NY City & State.
CPC Hosts Pass the Mic Townhall: Invest in Our New York On March 16th, CPC staff, community members, and elected officials hosted a virtual townhall about why it is critical to pass the Invest in Our New York Act and invest in our communities. Speakers from CPC included Lois Lee, Shuping Deng, and Melody Yang.
Asian American Community Leaders, State Legislators, and Diverse Allies Call on Governor Cuomo to Support Asian American New Yorkers On March 26th, CPC joined Asian American community leaders, NY State legislators, and hundreds of allies from New York’s nonprofit, business, union, philanthropic, and faith sectors to call for a $19.5 million package for Asian American community based organizations to respond to the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, promote relief and recovery from the pandemic, improve data disaggregation, and advance racial healing.
CPC Joins Brooklyn Elected Officials at #StopAsianHate Rally CPC Brooklyn Community Services Director Steve Mei spoke at a rally organized by State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assembly Member Peter Abbate Jr. and Council Member Justin Brannan on March 29th to denounce the rise in anti-Asian violence.
CPC and NYLAG will co-host a virtual legal immigration workshop next Thursday, 4/8/21 from 10:30 to 11:30. This Know Your Rights workshop will help if you are stopped by ICE and Border Patrol. Learn how to create a safety plan to keep your family safe if you are in deportation proceedings or case removals. Learn how to protect yourself from immigrant fraud. Construction Training Program Begins in April!
CPC is accepting applications for the Spring 2021 session of BuildingWorks' FREE training program. This is a 5-week class that will prepare individuals for a career as a Union Carpenter. The next class will begin on April 26 and end on May 28. Classes meet Monday thru Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM. Classes will be conducted in Lower Manhattan, with some classes held virtually.
