Blue sky, clear blue water, 'blue mind'

' - then on the shore
of the wide world I stand alone, and think
until Love and Fame to nothingness do sink'

When Keats looked out to open skies and clear water, everything fell into perspective, calming his fears and bringing order to his thoughts. Inhabiting a Keatsian viewpoint is what we long for in business as we hope for creative thinking and pioneering solutions that put us way out ahead of our competitors.

Yet any five minute conversation with a business professional suggests that we don't spend enough time 'on the shore of the wide world'.  Incessant busyness and advancing deadlines sabotage our attempts for authenticity and original thinking and before we know it we're churning out the same old solutions not just to the same problems, but even to the new ones.

Maybe we should consider 'dipping our toes in the water' of something genuinely refreshing...

(By the way, Keats was ahead of the game - recent scientific research confirms the power of the water.)

surfing chaos and complexity - spring 2016

evolute's unique surfing chaos and complexity programme takes leaders away from the demands of everyday life to the ocean of new possibilities.  Leaders are equipped with space for themselves, and with a deep understanding of adventure dynamics intellectually, emotionally and physically.  Renewed perspectives and resources enable skillful collaboration with inner and outer circumstances to create, grow and sustain projects and people, with a touch of joie de vivre.

Leaders experience inner shifts which transform outer perception.  Increased vision leads to new energy for work and home responsibilities.

There are a couple of places left on our programme in May:

Monday 9th - Thursday 12th May 2016

Book now to:

  • Assess strengths and vulnerabilities in dealing with chaotic and complex situations (global economic uncertainty, unpredictable futures, increased pace of technological development, superabundant information, wondering colleagues and clients);
  • Live from a deeper sense of personal and organisational purpose;
  • Maintain greater openness to information to make better decisions;
  • Identify and understand different personality types and how to enable people to feel secure, fulfilled and challenged at work;
  • Surf.

Our programme draws on a unique blend of cutting-edge psychology, living systems leadership theory, discussion, coaching and surfing tuition.  Numbers are strictly limited to allow for one-to-one attention.

All food and drink are provided.  Meals are based on traditional British home cooking, starting with freshly baked Cream Tea on arrival at the venue.

Surf lessons are provided by local surf school Surfs Up.

Despatches from an innovation leader

This time we catch up with Jessie Faerber, founder of the charity Belle, who took an evolute bursary place on the 2015 programme:

1. What did you learn?

I learnt SO much. It was an incredible, supportive yet challenging week. I learnt from the other people on the course with me who had so much wisdom to impart (especially Liz). I learnt about coping with struggles and how to keep pushing through. I learnt that people 'bob-up' so to persevere.  I learnt to build rest into my life. I learnt that preparation is key.

2. How will you use what you’ve discovered at work/at home?  What concrete actions will you take/experiment with?

I will be moving to the city and consequently received a job offer there - SCC has given me the drive and the confidence to pursue big things as well as the determination to prepare the small things. I now let set-backs slide on by (in the sense of not getting emotionally-involved)!

5. What could contribute to making the adventure even better?

It was AMAZING exactly how it was!

I would have no hesitation in recommending SCC (even if you can't surf!!) - throw yourself into it and you'll get SO much back. It will transform not only your outlook on business but also your outlook on life. It will influence how you deal with people, yet how you deal with yourself too. It's warm, inviting and inclusive. It's exciting, transformative and empowering. I left with my passion and purpose in hand and a tenacious desire to go forth and pursue it. Thank you Liz for sharing your passion and not only inspiring others with it, but empowering them.

How to book

To send yourself to the programme, just get in touch with us and we will arrange a call to discuss your situation and aspirations.

To send a leader from your organisation: If you know of a leader whose role requires a greater understanding and ability to navigate adventure dynamics, contact Elizabeth and she will arrange a series of calls to discuss the situation, needs and aspirations of the organisation and the individual.

We can create a bespoke SCC for your team.  To explore how this might work, just get in touch.

And in other news...

evolute's work this spring has focused on leadership transformation and project team optimisation.  A theme has been enabling clients to see organisations as living systems which order themselves around purpose, information and connection.  We support teams to strengthen working relationships (within themselves and with others) to build agility and resilience in the high-demand conditions of complex global projects.

Madagascar was amazing!!  It was a total privilege to work with the people of Mercy Ships.  You can read Amy's 'participant eye view' post about the trip here, and thank you so much Amy for these photos!

(We snuck off to the shore for some blue skies and clear blue water too...)
