THE TALE OF RUBY ROSE (1987)
Director Roger Scholes will be a special guest at BOFA 2015 for this nostalgic screening of his 1987 classic The Tale of Ruby Rose.
As well as his many producer/director credits over 30 years, Roger has been a lecturer in the Open Program of AFTRS and other film and television courses, has worked as a script editor on numerous drama and documentary projects and as a project assessor for the AFC. He has also acted as a Mentor Director for the ABC and SBS. He’s been a board member of the Swinburne VCA Film and TV School and the Advisory Board of Screen Tasmania.
This film has stood the test of time- the powerful story and stunning cinematography of the Tasmanian Highlands is not to be missed. The film won four critics prizes at the Venice Film Festival in 1987 including Best Actress and Best Director.

SWEET RUNNING MACHINES
Another World Premiere for BOFA with this quirky documentary telling the story of how a small community in northern Tasmania turned economic setbacks into triumphs. What started for directors Natalia and Grant Hennessy as a trip to film the annual Steamfest at Sheffield turned into a moving story of a community renewing itself through creating a thriving tourist industry built around murals and steam engines. You’ll love the story, the country characters and the community spirit that created this man-made miracle.

THE GREY AREAS
Director Danny Youd will be a special guest at the World Premiere of his compelling first feature, shot entirely in Launceston on a tiny budget. In The Grey Areas the lives of three young people are thrown into chaos when an old ‘friend’ arrives back into town and sets in motion a series of events that will affect them more than they could ever imagine. Thoughtful, beautiful and haunting, The Grey Areas is a surrealist, dramatic thriller that follows an interconnected group of young people pushed to extremes in the deserted streets and laneways of an isolated community.
