The academic regulations for module assessment have changed for 2011-12. If you are studying on an undergraduate degree programme, you need to be aware of this change.
The minimum overall pass mark for undergraduate modules is still 40% (weighted average). There is no longer a requirement to achieve a minimum of 30% in each element of assessment (unless this is explicitly stated in the module descriptor). However, you must attempt all elements of summative assessment. If you do not submit work for any element of assessment, this will result in a fail mark for the module overall.
This change is intended to help you demonstrate that you have met all the learning outcomes of the module.
You should make sure that you know exactly what the assessment requirements for each of your modules are - if in doubt, contact your module leader or programme leader.
The regulations for postgraduate modules have not changed.

Student profile
Name: Alec Mack
Course: BA Scottish Cultural Studies (3rd year)
Location: Dunoon/Argyll College:
About me: Since leaving school at 16 I have done many things, but my enduring passion has been for music. I recently played bouzouki on the theme music of a Scottish Arts Council funded film called The House and I am currently composing the music for a play, written by up and coming playwright Vanessa Oakes. In many ways, it has been my interest in folk music and folk culture that attracted me to my current course.
My UHI:
The Cultural Studies programme has enabled me to study a range of fascinating and, in terms of career prospects, useful subjects. However, my involvement with the University hasn’t simply been confined to the classroom. As UHISA representative for Argyll College I’ve had the chance to travel around The Highlands and Islands making new friends and getting involved in a wide range of activities; I’ve taking part in subject reviews, I’m a member of The Quality Monitoring Group and I’ve even ran rock gigs! Another part of my UHISA work has been in campaigning for our minority languages. My attendance at The International Conference on Minority Languages in the German-Danish border region of Schleswig was an absolutely thrilling experience and one that was only made possible with the support of the university.
My Dreams: I’m not at all certain what the future holds for me, but I’d like to get back to playing more music once my studies finally come to an end. The biggest ambition I have, at this point in time, is to gain fluency with my Gaelic and to use my education to work for the cultural and economic interests of our communities.
