Butoh, Synergic Global Art

December 2, 5:00 - 5:30 pm                                                     BARRICK MUSEUM/DONALD H. BAEPLER XERIC GARDEN

Butoh Performance by Patricia Miranda & Yasmina Chavez
Musical Performance by Hermon Farahi & Julian Tanaka

This performance is an exploration of the Japanese dance style butoh through a careful study of its artistic and theoretical propositions as well as the historical context from which it emerged. The performance is a result of a collective and individual process of investigation. As a group project this presentation attempts to reveal the implications of butoh in contemporary artistic practices such as music, performance art, installation and the visual arts in general. The artists have chosen the term synergy because their aim is to show the potential ability of individual organizations or groups to be more successful or productive as a result of a merger.

Seeing Voices: Contemporary Drawings

November 8 – December 13, 2013
DONNA BEAM FINE ART

One of the basic forms of expression in the visual arts is drawing or mark making.  It’s the touch of a pencil, charcoal, pen and ink or any variety of media to a surface by the hand of the artist.  Seeing Voices presents a wide mixture of work by nine contemporary artists from across the U.S.  including Karen Baldner, Jeff Burden, Don Eddy, Fay Ku, Jon Rappleye, Jennifer Wynne Reeves, Bill Richards, Aaron Sheppard and Jim Sullivan, all of whose drive is fueled simply by the love of drawing, the pure joy of giving voice to what they see.

Gallery hours:  Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm; Saturday, 12pm to 5pm; closed Sundays and holidays.

The gallery is free and open to the public. For further information, please call 702.895.3893
