What: Opening Reception
When: Friday, November 18, 6 - 8 pm.
Three nationally-known contemporary photographers probe the limits of photographic representation in Exploring Photographic Alternatives. Featuring acclaimed artists Holly Roberts, Darius Kuzmickas, and Vegas local Diane Bush, the show presents work intended to challenge political and intellectual conceptions as well as aesthetic notions, with photographic techniques that forefront their own photograph-ness. New Mexico-based Holly Roberts combines paint and collage with photographic prints to create haunting, luminous story-scapes. Portland, Oregon’s Darius Kuzmickas creates atmospheric pinhole and camera obscura images, with a series of images transforming anonymous hotel rooms into cameras obscura and recording the inter-relation of private and public across the hotel walls. Diane Bush will be displaying her latest series of large bleached photographs, “Raw”, bleached to the point of abstraction by the artist, as well as "Blanket of Lies" created by participants during public events and political protests.
This exhibition is funded, in part, by Cirque du SoleilĀ® Cultural Action Department; and by the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
