Sustainable Tourism

Sustainable tourism is becoming an increasingly important part of our industry. With the release of the Québec government’s action plan for promoting responsible and sustainable tourism, this type of tourism development is about to become an industry norm rather than a trend. Travellers are better informed and want to have a positive impact during their trips. To better respond to these expectations and deepen our knowledge of this field, Le Québec maritime has joined the new Sustainable Tourism Québec (Tourisme Durable Québec) association. This proactive and unifying organization aims to popularize sustainability, celebrate achievements, set priorities and shape the tourism industry of tomorrow. Le Québec maritime is pleased to be involved in this movement that is initiating change in order to better meet the expectations of responsible travellers.

New team, same atmosphere at Auberge du Mange Grenouille
After 30 wonderful years, Carole Faucher and Jean Rossignol are passing on the torch to Mélissa Gagné and Mathieu Deschênes, the new owners of the unique Auberge du Mange Grenouille. The couple wishes to preserve the inn’s theatrical atmosphere while making changes in the kitchen with a new executive chef, Antoine Landry. Antoine’s simple, fresh and vegetable-based cuisine will showcase a wide variety of local ingredients and products.

New cabins at the Réserve faunique de Rimouski
Two new Horizon cabins accommodating up to six people will be available in the wildlife reserve as of June 2021, and another two will be in operation by the 2022 season. These unique cabins, which are only available in Sépaq wildlife reserves, offer a living room area with huge windows. Made almost entirely of wood from Québec, they are solar-powered.

Deep-sea fishing excursions
An extraordinary experience awaits you in Matane, in Gaspésie, with Destination Haute-Mer. Board a charter boat and go sea fishing for mackerel, striped bass, cod or other groundfish. You can also observe marine mammals during your trip. Enjoy unforgettable moments on the St. Lawrence with your captains and guides!

Percé seen from the sky
You can now fly over the magnificent Percé area in a helicopter with Hélico Horizon Gaspésie. Mario Bélisle and his team will be happy to help you discover the majestic panoramic scenery of the Gaspé Peninsula from the air, from Chaleur Bay to Forillon. The takeoff site is 6 km from the centre of Percé.

Updated exhibition: Paspébiac 1886
The Site historique national de Paspébiac has a new name, a new logo and an updated exhibition that focuses on the people who contributed to the rich cultural history of this exceptional historic site, namely its inhabitants. Since 2020, the permanent exhibition has complemented the 11 buildings dating from the 19th century that make up the Paspébiac national historic site. Throughout the exhibition, historical characters, interpretation panels and period photos tell the story of the cod fishery, the local shipbuilding industry and the lives of the residents of Paspébiac at that time.

New Exploramer boat
Exploramer is an activities complex focused on the marine environment of the St. Lawrence. Its new boat, the C-E Marin Exploramer, will accommodate 31 passengers, including one in a wheelchair. To celebrate the launching of this new vessel, Exploramer will offer a new sustainable fishing excursion starting June 24. This sea excursion is intended as an introduction to sea fishing; participants will learn about sustainable fishing and can try to catch some of the little-known species found in the St. Lawrence.

Expansion of the Marine Mammal Interpretation Centre (CIMM)
The Marine Mammal Interpretation Centre (CIMM) in Tadoussac is expanding to make room for four new specimens in an exhibition that is already the largest collection of mounted whale skeletons in Canada. The public will soon be able to take a close look at the giant skeletons of a fin whale, humpback and right whale as well as at a beluga fossil that is 11,000 years old!

A new ship for CTMA
CTMA operates the ferry service between Prince Edward Island and the Îles de la Madeleine. Its new ship, the MV Madeleine II, will be put into service in the summer of 2021. Built in 2018, this ferry is equipped with the latest technology and will offer passengers a more pleasant trip year-round since it is designed to navigate in ice-covered waters. In addition, the new ship has a capacity of 300 cars and 1500 passengers, almost double that of its predecessor, the Madeleine I, which could accommodate 190 cars and 772 passengers.

Inspiring initiative at the À l’Abri de la Tempête microbrewery
In operation since 2004, À l’Abri de la Tempête is the only microbrewery in the Îles de la Madeleine. In order to improve customer experience during the pandemic, the owners decided to make the most of their land, which overlooks the sea. Twelve picnic tables, several wind shelters and a shed converted into an outdoor kiosk were set up to facilitate service outside the main building.
