Editor's note

You might just have more in common with bees than you thought. In the past fortnight, we’ve published two fairly revealing pieces about this hardworking little insect, the first that they understand the concept of 0 (this research is amazing) and the second on how they get stressed at work. Finding pollen is a hard slog; bees have to deal with predators, challenging weather conditions and the very real risk of getting lost. I for one won’t be complaining about whether the thermostat is the office is too cold ever again – at least I’m not at risk of being squished.

In other news this week, renowned writer and academic Dennis Altman wrote for us about how Australia’s obsession with the US and UK is having a real impact on our politics. It’s a long read but a good one about why we still look unreflectively to the US and Britain for intellectual guidance.
