You know there's a good feed to be had at cultural events like NAIDOC or at large family or community gatherings.
A mouth-watering roo stew, fragrant beef curry, chicken vermicelli or a good old kupmari are sure to tempt the taste buds.
As these type of events happen occasionally you might think this gives you a free pass to eat as much as you want. You may also think the same if you're the active type.
"Any rigorous exercise will help use up that extra energy that you’ve eaten or are going to eat," says Lucille Chalmers from Diabetes Queensland.
"That’s okay for some people, but if your exercise is 30 minutes of walking, that’s not likely to do that job.
"A 2-hour cycle - that might do the job."
Lucille says balance is the key.
"Certainly if people are aiming to lose some weight, the big focus is the types of healthy food they are eating, and the portion sizes of those foods, as well as balancing it out with some exercise," she told Move.
