World Festival Exclusive!
We are proud to announce confirmation that DJ Dynamo and his experimental solar powered wheelbarrow disco made from reclaimed waste will be at this year’s event.
Tip of the Pops is the antidote to Apple's ipod- a subversive and anarchic discotheque made from waste transported in a wheelbarrow. Playing dumped vinyl records on discarded equipment, Tip of the Pops is a lot of fun but also a serious statement about our throw-away society. There is a hidden beauty to found objects and upcycling them.
Shambala is the only event anywhere on the planet that you can see Tip of Pops this year.
This year we have truly exceeded ourselves in bringing you the best thought leaders in the country. Although the world may seem a bit of a mess, we hope that with our collective and collaborative thinking caps the people of Shambala can up with some radical, feasible, playful and intelligent solutions.
To guide you through the mental maze we our proud to welcome back Tom Hodgkinson, editor of the Idler Magazine. He will be bringing his Idler Academy and teaching us the joys of how to live an idle life full of pleasure and philosophy. Workshops include Ancient Greek for beginners, Calligraphy and grammar lessons.
'The Future is Beautiful,' this is the belief of Futerra, a brilliant group of visionaries, who have spent a decade communicating sustainability to the world. Join them in their Emporium of Invaluable Insights: capturing and harvesting the revelations, observations and moments of clarity that festival-goers experience. They have one outcome firmly in their minds- to leave the festival with a tangible set of actions that people can take away to ensure that the future is indeed beautiful!
Does anyone understand how to save our economy? Well to help us to get some insight we have invited the N.E.F (the new economics foundation) an independent think-and-do tank that inspires and demonstrates real economic well-being, to come and share their knowledge and expertise in this area. The N.E.F are unique in combining rigorous analysis and policy debate with practical solutions on the ground, often run and designed with the help of local people. They also create new ways of measuring progress towards increased well-being and environmental sustainability.
A Family Experience Like No Other
We are confident that this year's Shambala will be the best family experience you could hope for. So whether you want relax in the sun by the lake with a pint while the kids play in the sand-pit (sounds like heaven) or check out the family matinee shows at the Social Club and films at The Lost Picture House cinema, or participate in the many 100’s of brilliant diverse workshops and activities, there is never a dull family moment to be had.
To make life even easier for families we have doubled the amount of compost loos on site, increased the number of “Posh Wash” showers and introduced a new dedicated family vehicle field. We will be offering wheel barrows you can borrow for free to help get you kit to camp from car parks and all food traders will offer reasonably priced kids meals on their menus.
But, best of all, Shambala Festival is a famously warm natured and friendly festival with a wild side - parents like to party too!
