Hail Hot Bottlers!

I hope you are sliding gently into this Bank Holiday Monday with the sunshine peering through your window and relaxation at the top of your list.  I've got some superb Value Vino to share with you - plenty to look forward to sipping this week.

THREE BOOKS

I was delighted to write about "Three Books" for The Mail. A childhood favourite, a book I am reading now and one that I can't wait to read. It got me thinking how much a good book is fuel for the spirit. You can read my choices here.

SPLASH DOWN!

I've been lucky to taste a selection of wines from Berry Bros. & Rudd recently.  Their curation is generally top notch and as one of the oldest wine merchants in Britain - or perhaps even the oldest - they have centuries of experience under their belt!  I picked out this beauty for a real summer treat. Bedrock Wine Company Wirz Riesling 2018, Cienaga Valley, USA (14.5%) £24.95.  Boom! This Riesling is as arresting and dazzling as a flashbulb popping in your face on a big night out. From the first whiff of toasted pine nuts through to the luxuriant texture, this wine is as invigorating and pristine as an eruption of salt crystals and diamonds hurtling into the sky. Treat yourself!

ISOLATION DIARY

I took my trusty - and rather furry - companion Busby on a little adventure to explore the River Ouse in East Sussex for my latest Isolation Diary on Mail+. We considered the rich history running through my local waterways that seem teeming with wildlife and we even got knotted in a bit of wild knitting on the way.  See for yourself here!

VALUE VINO

And now for some splendid tipples to fill your glass this week:

Paso-Primero Rosé Somontano 2019 (14.5%) £8.90 tanners.co.uk. Richly colourful, this rocking rosé tastes like a raspberry that’s been filled with watermelon juice. Brilliant value from off the beaten track in Somontano, northeastern Spain.

Tapada de Villar Vinho Verde 2019 (10%) £7 M&S. Apple mint and passionfruit explode in a spritzy, stylish, uplifting white with satisfying bite. Perfect summery vino to chill down with and pair with salads or shellfish.

Camino de Seda 2019 (15%) Laithwaites from £8.99 in a mixed case. If you can bag the £8.99 price, this is definitely worth buying. Heroic herbal aromas and high impact dollops of sweet bold fruit held in place by firm tannin. Memorable and mighty wine.

Pierre Jaurant Pinot Gris 2019 (12.5%) £5.99 Aldi  Light, fruity and sleek as a lemony icicle. Super with shellfish or mild spicy recipes.

LB7 Rosé 2019 (12.5%) Majestic from £6.74 on a mix six special offer price!. Sweetly fragrant as candyfloss woven from strawberries and cherries, this fruity gem has simple enjoyment as its virtue. Catch the extra 25% rosé offer on mix six and it's a real bargain.  Summery splendour!

Here's to you as ever and look out for me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I'm looking forward to sharing an exciting announcement from HQ with you in the coming weeks, until then stay safe and keep sipping!
