REOI Tips & Tools #3
Complete an Effective System Harmonization Project Application

In Mid-February we launched the CIF's 2015 Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI). This bulletin is the third in a series that breaks down the application process and offers tips to prepare your best possible submission for this year's REOI.

Special Tips & Tools for Blue Box Harmonization Projects

CIF has set aside $300,000 to support municipalities seeking to: (1) Improve consistency in the types of recyclable material collected. (2) Standardize collection/processing methodologies; (3) Standardize contracts; (4) Develop consistent promotional and educational resources.

Here's what you need to know to create top-quality Blue Box Harmonization project applications (using REOI Form 4):

  • Blue Box Harmonization applications: Ideally have province-wide or waste shed impacts. Emphasis on recovering common material streams. Must include multiple municipalities or programs. Note: Projects involving studies should be submitted as Centre of Excellence funding applications.
  • Provide supporting documentation: Strong applications will have a detailed budget, show expected savings or diversion benefits, capital budgets/quotes, multi-municipal participation and other supporting documentation.
  • Develop timeline and monitoring/measurement plans: These documents are vital features of strong Harmonization projects. If you need guidance on how to create them contact CIF.
  • Include project evaluation criteria: Your application should describe as many of the established evaluation criteria as possible to demonstrate the strength of your proposal.
