Several faculty members of the Department of Psychiatry- including Hochang "Ben" Lee, MD, George Nasra, MD, MBA, Marsha Wittink, MD, MBE, Catherine
Cerulli, JD, PhD, Ellen Poleshuck, PhD, Jennifer Richman, MD, Tziporah Rosenberg, PhD, and Susan McDaniel, PhD- recently visited Florence, Italy for
the 25th World Congress of the International College of Psychosomatic Medicine. They presented a workshop on integrated care approaches in addressing depression in individuals with unmet social needs, and a symposium, “Bringing the Biopsychosocial Model into the 21st Century: Collaboration, Integration, and Technology.” We are proud to announce that the 26th World Congress in 2021 will be held in Rochester. Roybal Center Receives NIH Grant
Led by Kim van Orden, PhD and Kathi Heffner, PhD, The Rochester Roybal Center for Social Ties & Aging Research was awarded a P30 grant from The National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Aging to support the development of behavioral interventions that promote social connectedness in caregivers of a

The Children's Institute will receive a Project LAUNCH grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to support the Rochester Whole Child Health Initiative, a project dedicated to closing service gaps in preventative care for children in Rochester. Pediatric Behavioral Health & Wellness will be

A celebration was held in September to recognize a $25,000 contribution from The Avangrid Foundation in partnership with RG&E, to support our Family Lounge sponsored by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester. This grant will fund lounge operations to provide respite for families

Steven Silverstein to Join Psychiatry
Rutgers University researcher Steven M. Silverstein, PhD will be joining the Department of Psychiatry as the George L. Engel Professor in Psychosocial Medicine and associate chair of Research in January 2020. Adolescent/ Young Adult Program to Begin at Strong Recovery
Strong Recovery will be expanding their services at Brighton Business Center to include an adolescent/young adult (AYA) program with plans to open in October. April Aycock, MS, LMHC, CASAC has been hired into the position of Clinical Coordinator for AYA. Stay tuned for more to come on this important and exciting new program! The Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy Program held a Fall Gathering at Brighton Town Park with faculty, fellows, and the incoming cohort of students. This year's students come from across New York State, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin with a wide range of backgrounds. Not shown are Psychiatry's very own Jody Emmi and Amen Ptah who have begun classes and will be joining the part-time program in January. Jess Goodman Wins Steadman Prize
Jess Goodman, a postdoctoral appointee in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program, recently won The Steadman Family Postdoctoral Associate Prize in Interdisciplinary Research for her presentation Emergency Department Patient Subgroups: An Interdisciplinary Translational Approach. Her study looked at machine learning algorithms to operationalize emergency department use. Exploring Black Mental Health Through Literature
The Office of Mental Health Promotion will be hosting "Make Me Wanna Holler: The Healing Powers of Justice and Love Through the Lens of African American Literature" on October 3rd.
