Do Justice

The academic machine is long since humming as the school year swings into full gear (even for the folks on the quarter system). Students are running here and there from class to practice to social events and back to studying. It's easy to get sucked into the flurry of activity that is the academic year. Even for those not in school, the fall is a busy time of launching new projects, finalizing next year's budgets and thinking about the future. Yet we often lose perspective, only looking so far as the next meeting.

This fall we invite you to remind your students, your community and yourself of the broader vision for God's kingdom by engaging actively in the work of justice. The opportunities below are just a few invitations extended to our communities, ways you and the young adults you serve might engage in the work of justice both within the church and beyond. If you have other ideas for programs that have been well received by your community or that you'd like to see the broader body of the Episcopal Church engage in, we invite you to post them to our Facebook page.

The past year has brought much change, from the departure of our beloved friend and colleague, the Rev. Douglas Fenton's, to the gracious service of the Rev. Greg Bezilla as interim, to the joyful arrival of our new Chief Operating Officer, the Rt. Rev. Stacy Sauls and Director of Mission, Sam McDonald. May we be reminded this fall that the uncertainty goes well beyond our doorstep. May we remember that the world is in desperate need of hope and of help in this time of conflict and scarcity. And may we see the gifts we have to share and extend to others the abundance of God's grace.

Paz y fuego! We give thanks for the work you do!

This fall, faith communities around the country will host hundreds of “DREAM Sabbath” events to raise awareness for the DREAM Act.  Between September 16th and October 9th, we invite you and your community to integrate stories of DREAM students into your prayers, readings, reflections, or study sessions as a way to help educate and spread awareness of DREAM students and their hopes to attain full recognition of their contributions to our communities. Your participation will help spread understanding of the DREAM Act and build broad support for DREAM students! Click here for more information
