Update from the CEO

For some it was Dry July but at WAGPET it has been a deluge. 
Hot on the heels of the WAGPET Trainer Education Conference and the aftermath of evaluations and organising points and payments, we have had GPET regional training provider accreditation, the GPET selection centre interviewing over 100 AGPT applicants, orientation week for GPT1 general practice registrars, PGPPP orientation, PGPPP interviews, a board meeting  – and we renovated the office!

GP Registrars' Ball 2011

Creatures of the Night is the theme for the inaugural GP Registrars' Ball to be held 29th October at Perth Zoo.  Prevocational doctors, current and recently fellowed registrars are all invited to attend what promises to be a spectacular evening.  Limited funding is available to assist travel of rural based registrars and will be provided on a first come first serve basis.  Book your ticket now to ensure you don't miss out!

Selection 2012

On behalf of GPET's 2012 National AGPT selection process, WAGPET was asked to deliver both a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) process for all applicants requesting attendance at the WA Selection Centre. The process was successfully delivered and WAGPET staff have been asked to participate in a second round Selection Centre process to be delivered in Melbourne.

Placements for Semester 1, 2012 have now been matched against preferences submitted by both registrars and practices.  Letters confirming placements will be mailed out before the end of August.

RAC Workshop Day 25 November

WAGPET’s annual workshop for RAC members will take place on Friday 25 November this year.  All members of Regional Advisory Committees, including Administration Officers and non stipend members, will shortly receive a formal invitation to participate in the event. In the meantime, we would appreciate you blocking the day in your work calendars in anticipation.

2011/2012 First Wave Scholarship Programs

Twenty scholarships have been awarded for the 2011/2012 Metro/Rural Program, 10 metro and 10 rural, for first and second year medical students from the University of Western Australia and Notre Dame.  Three third and fourth year medical students have been awarded a First Wave Indigenous Health Training Scholarship.
