WHAT'S NEW IN NEW SOUTH WALES
It's a small world: Into The Wild curate pop-up stays in tiny homes across the State.
What's new in places to stayInto The Wild curate pop-up stays in tiny homes in secluded locations about two hours from Sydney. Once you book, everything you need to know is emailed to you, including directions to your secret hideaway. The petite and portable houses are named after the owners’ favourite book characters, and kitted out with hot shower and toilet, sink, stove, bedding for four people, and a fire pit with seating outside. The latest tiny home has been christened India from Gone With The Wind
and will be placed in the lovely wine country of Coolangatta in the Shoalhaven region of NSW. Capella Lodge on Lord Howe Island has recently reopened after a $4 million refurbishment. With just nine contemporary suites and only 400 people allowed on the island at any one time, this is a secluded and sophisticated stay. The updated suites have a range of additions such as heated plunge pools and daybeds, and are a stylish base to explore the fauna and flora on the island and take in the views over the turquoise water of Lovers Bay. For the
discerning business traveller, the new SKYE Suites are open for bookings, offering short-term stays in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Sleek, warm and inviting, the 73 suites are larger than a typical hotel room and provide guests a sophisticated environment with Delonghi appliances, Vittoria coffee machines, a mattress menu, mini bar, laundry facilities and Kevin Murphy toiletries.
The owners of Boydell’s Boutique Vineyard, Daniel and Jane, are excited to welcome guests to their lush property near Singleton for a new glamping experience. Jane has styled the tent in Safari-style luxe with a copper bathtub overlooking the valley and king bed draped in a net canopy. The couple are busy bringing up their four daughters while crafting Boydell’s award-winning Rosé and breeding Angus cattle. They are offering a romantic weekender for two for $590, including BBQ Hamper with wine pairing and continental breakfast.
For an authentic Murray River cruise in modern comfort, the iconic Paddlesteamer Emmylou has new deluxe cabins for a memorable overnight stay on the river. While the historic PS Emmylou is powered by an authentic 1906 Steam Engine the boat is thoroughly contemporary. The Emmylou Suite is the boat’s premier accommodation with French doors opening to the deck plus a queen bed. There are also stylishly designed Upper Deck and Main Deck cabins. The cruise includes meals, selected wine and beer and signature onshore tours.
Flavour hit: tuck into delicious Asian street food at Miss Lilian Tea House, Blue Mountains.
What's new in food & wineFor authentic Asian street food in the Blue Mountains, visit the newly opened Miss Lilian Teahouse at Lilianfels Resort and Spa in Katoomba. With colourful birdcages suspended from the ceiling and bowls of Asian comfort food crafted from local produce infused with cinnamon, star anise, cloves, chives, chillies and lemongrass – this is a fun feast for all the senses. Try the coconut prawn on sugarcane and the Vietnamese pho with
local Angus beef. The Hawkesbury's Glenorie Bakery has released a special Invictus Pie to raise funds for the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded, injured and ill veteran and active service personnel to be held in Sydney from 20-27 October. With flavours inspired by the traditional cottage pie and English white rose, $5 from the sale of every pie will be donated to the games. Due to popular demand, MOLO Wine Bar will set up shop permanently on Woolloomooloo Wharf this month after their runaway success as a pop-up eatery last year. They have released their fresh new Spring menu focused on bold flavours showcased by simplicity. Sit wharfside to sample freshly shucked local Oysters, Clarence River fried school prawns with Sardinian salt and vinegar, and some of the best Italian wines available.
Classic country watering hole, The Royal in Yass, has had a restoration to give locals and visitors of all ages a welcoming space to enjoy. The newly christened The Yass Hotel has been given an open-plan feel with more light, while elements of the original Royal Hotel circa 1849 can be spied throughout, like the glass panelling above the doors and mosaic tile detail. Executive Chef Shaun Badley has designed a new menu showcasing local produce with favourites including the Wagyu beef burger, tasty haloumi chips and pan-fried snapper.
The recently renovated Tathra Hotel is opening a brewery this month to create their own beer for locals and travellers to enjoy. Manager Michael Drew says he wanted to create a space where conversation could flow as well as the beer. “The brews available at the Tathra Hotel and Humpback Brewery are dynamic. They change with the seasons and demand, and offer a good diversity from refreshing lagers and flavourful IPA's to golden Ales, Dark Ales and more.” Linger longer and stay in one of the newly renovated Heritage Suites upstairs.

The
MCA will present a major retrospective of internationally renowned South African photographer, David Goldblatt, called David Goldblatt: Photographs 1948 – 2018 from 19 October until 3 March 2019. of race and racism, and industry and the land.” For more information visit: www.artpass.com.au
